You’re bringing back some childhood memories Cliff. Seeing that train over on the Lancaster County side made me think of my Dad taking me fishing down at the springs at Shenk’s Ferry. I would lay a few pennies on the rails and the trains would squash them! Thank you! 😊

The paved area was a parking lot for the folks that built the dam and later operated it. There is a switchback trail with a fence down the side that goes right to the dam, from there workers rode bicycles over the dam to the powerhouse. There was a paved road right out to Shanks Ferry road that provided access. You really should have hiked down, a friend of mine now owns the property and I likely could hook you up for parking. That parking area became a gathering/partying place for teens after it was no longer used by dam employees. I heard that a large portion of York County's population was conceived right there. The planes were A-1O Warthogs, they train using the Susquehanna for visual navigation.

Thanks for the video. Nice trail. Trekking poles come with wrist straps so if you need the use of your other hand the pole will just hang on your wrist. Stay well and safe.

That's a pretty nice shelter in Apollo County Park. You have to let the park office know you are staying there. I stayed there on the night of June 3. I actually pitched my tent inside it. And I didn't see the shelter or the sign (I know, I was hiking too much with my head down) and passed it until I got up into the field and had to backtrack. That's how much vegetation is there in summer. Very nice hike, Cliff.

Nice hike Cliff. Any idea why the stone wall was there? Was there a home there at one time?

Use lanyard on the stick and dangle. Minor inconvenience, but makes up for it overall.

near the area where the chain-linked fence was is a steep switchback trail that goes down the hill to the safe harbor dam.

Very enjoyable hike. A word of caution...yesterday on the local news was a story about a woman hiking on a trail in Raccoon State Park. Her dog got caught in a trap which was right on the trail covered with leaves. She was able to free the dog but both her and the dog was injured badly. So be careful on those leaf covered trails. Stay safe always ❤❤❤❤
