Being a Brightonian, born and bred, there's a few extra things I can tell you. We do have a sandy portion of the beach but you have to wait untill low tide to get to it. The North Laine is the name given to the fields to the north of the old fishing village. On you way through Pavilion Gardens, the building to your left is the Brighton Dome and Corn Exchange. This used to be the Prince Regent's stables and riding school. It now houses the Brighton Museum, a concert auditorium and an exhibition space. The Dome is also the concert auditorium where ABBA won the Eurovision song contest in 1974 with their song Waterloo. If you're on the Palace Pier, not Brighton Pier, locals have never called it Brighton Pier, in the late afternoon in the winter, you can see mumerations of Starlings. There are thousands of birds coming to roost under the pier. The sight is incredible as is the sound. Just a few of the things that you can see around my home city.

So glad you loved Brighton, I spent a lot of my childhood there. Going to the piers (back when there were two) was always a highlight. I don’t know if you can show them on your channel but there are many pictures of the Pavilion interior on Google. Have you been to Portsmouth? A visit to the Historic Dock Yard is well worth the money; you can see HMS Victory, Nelson’s Flag Ship at the battle of Trafalgar and the oldest commissioned war ship in the world as well as other historic navy ships and the Mary Rose. You can also travel by hovercraft to the Isle of Wight - come on when else are you going to get to travel by hovercraft?

It's not the endlessly cheerful voyage of discovery that jars a little bit, it's the absolutely 100% full throttle competitive enthusiasm about every little bloody thing. That's what we British simply do not understand about Americans - and find faintly suspicious, frankly. (Sorry.) Life is dull, hard and repetitive - and full of rain. But it is your duty to live it as accurately as possible without ever permitting it to annoy you. That (and a genuinely hot cup of tea) is what it really means to be British.
