Hey! I was in Japan in this era. The Japanese crowds, the ring as well made it better. Cages allow unfair advantages for grapplers. Like Khabib, you can wedge guys against the fence. But rings don't allow that. It's more fair I feel and creates more flow. In the cage it's like up to 10 minutes of a guy sitting on top of a guy. From a pure grappling side, its entertaining but not for everyone else. Sakuraba was the real king of Pride. The guy didn't train! and smoked packets of cigs. His walk-ins were so cool, and funny.

What I learned about Islam from watching Russian channel contents (Khabib's youtube, ufc eurasia, red corner mma etc.) is that he really is a character fond of details and technical stuff. To illustrate, his conditioning coach based in Russia said they have a book where all his training & physical conditioning stats are documented and tracked over the years (numbers, scales, trends etc.).. those notes means a lot to Islam and he likes poring over them. He is more cerebral than english speaking audience notice and a diligent student of his interests (from enduro bikes, to horses, to mma). This natural affinity for details translates to his fighting (striking accuracy, rhythm, defense etc).

Hi Weasle, I just wanted to share some light on Khabibs situation. The thing is - since the biginning of mobilization in 2022 most of Russia's athletes, celebrities and anyone with big following have been approached by the government and asked to endorse the war and mobilization in one way or another (sadly even Fedor agreed). Right now Dagestan is actually the main region for mobilizing conscripts for the war , which led to huge protests in 2022-23. So instead of endorsing it ,Khabib publicly spoke against the war and mobilization from Dagestan and since then he basically was "black listed", his gyms and restaurants were raided frequently by the cops, some family members and friends lost their positions in the region in local government, tax evasion accusations etc. This sh*t show is also the reason why Khabib wasn't in Islams corner during Volk fights.. And just a few weeks ago it became public that Khabib received OAE citizenship. In my opinion, out of everything that Khabib did within and out of the sport - this has to be the most life-defining GOAT moment..

Also Izzy won majority of the rnds they faced in any sport, but Alex has that equalizer with his power just like Deontay Wilder, that compensates for any lack of skill he may have. Heck, even in the fight Alex won, man almost went out but saved by the bell. Izzy is no joke.

Sure, he was losing the first MMA fight, but that was his 8th MMA fight against Izzy, a reigning champ in his 6th title defense. The first time he had a full MMA camp was against Bruno Silva, and he had never fought for 25 minutes before the 1st Izzy fight, neither in MMA or KB. Same thing in KB, Alex with 20ish fights fighting Izzy in his 79th pro fight.
