If anyone wants to make a sling large enough to throw tennis balls, here are some tips learned through trial and error: - It used up 40 feet (12.19 m) of 550 paracord and my wingspan is 72 in (182.88 cm) - 2:15 - make 5 loops instead of 2 so it's wide enough to hold the ball, each loop was 8 1/2 in (21.59 cm) long. You can shorten horizontally later. - 3:19 - To get a nice diamond pattern and not a checkered pattern, loosely weave up and down. You can shorten vertically later. - 6:40 - When finished, you can begin gently shortening the vertical weaves until 3 in (7.62 cm). - 7:05 - The horizontal loops can be shorten from 8 to 6 in (15.24 cm) at minimum and consistently hold a tennis ball. Any shorter and the ball starts to fall out more easily. - 9:34 - I recommend setting the length of the strands by holding the pouch in one hand and pulling the strands to the corner of your mouth, like the draw length of a bow. At this length you have the option of throwing overhand, underhand, and Greek style if you wanted to. - My final sling dimensions: Pouch was 6x3 in (15.24x7.62 cm) and strand length with knot/loop was 28 in (71.12 cm). Pouch dimensions are more important than strand length. Have fun slinging out there

Can it still sling smaller rocks or just stuff around tennis ball size?
@dropkickcorpse5 жыл бұрын
@@reallifire6754 Yeah, it can still throw smaller rocks as long as the rock isn't too light. Marble-sized rocks are too small, but rocks with a diameter of your thumb length still work well. Density seems to be more important for a pouch this size and tends to affect the throw more than size.

Thanks for your variant Atomica ! I will take your mesures directly to throw balls for my dog ^^ I just didn't understand exactly what you mean by ''loosely weave up and down'' to get the diamond pattern, shall I take over or under the two upper and lower strands instead of passing between them ?

Thanks for the how-to. I imagine that a block of wood with some spaced nails to hold the double loop + dowel to maintain a vertical gap would essentially create a simple loom and free your hands to weave the cup. I've also seen people use their toes as a 3rd set of fingers (when weaving woven sandals) to free one hand up for weaving.

Use this "pouch weave" to make a belt. I used 6mm paracord and its 95 cm woven really loose. All the holes are making the belt adjustable. Simply add stopperknots in both ends. Those are then put through any holes at a convenient length around your waist. For jeans I recommend a red/green paracord.
@joewoodchuck38243 жыл бұрын
I can easily see where a rudimentary loom could make sorting and holding longitudinal strands in place, especially for more than two loops. I would use a board and some nails to hold the loops. I keep the ends of most string and rope from unraveling by dipping in paint or dabbing nail polish on. Either one can be thinned for easier fiber penetration.
@joewoodchuck38248 ай бұрын
I do that all the time. Works great on any rope or string that I've used.

@michaels53815 ай бұрын
Thanks for the tutorial, made sevaral ones using your technique and ti throws well. One thing I'd change is using the scaffold knot. After a few throws it tends to tighten around the finger, so I'd recommend either using double loop figure 8 to have loop on two fingers or a fishermans knot (dont know its name). The other thing is after a few hours throwing the sling gets "bent" on one side of pouch as a result of tightening of cord, probably has something to do with the end part of weaving. Haven't managed to secure it in place so the thread doesn't move, will test on another sling soon.

Slingers typically do not spin a sling over and over before release. Most often there’s only one, or even a partial, revolution.

They do
@Kurokubi4 жыл бұрын
There are different styles of throws. That partial revolution is merely one of them.

I learned from a book to use one side swing transitioning to a horizontal overhead swing and releasing at the end of the second swing. I did experiment with one revolution but the velocity was low and it wasn't any more accurate.

I did it and i like the weaved pouch more than the leather my Dad and me used to make. Seems to release smoother increasing my accuracy. I made a bigger pouch than you prolly a 5-6 inch. The only problem i had was where my cord meets the pouch is not centered it is offset on the pouch. Gonna reweave it to achieve consistency in my throws. How do you get it so perfect? I like your weaves.

I don't know if I'm just bad, or of this doesn't work with natural cordage, but all I could find was jute twine, so I braided 3 11 foot sections together to make a stronger rope, and tried this method. Ive been at it for 3 hours (including the braiding) and haven't gotten past the second row without it imploding into a knot. I've tried using a skewer for even tension and even holding it in my mouth with my fingers in the loops, but it always falls apart. What am I doing wrong? I just want to break the sound barrier with a rock, is that too much to ask? Lmao

man oh man, as kids, we messed with em, cheap as dirt garbage toys, but with a little care with good cord, my GOD deadly power... I like from middle finger to opposite shoulder, pretty near leg lenth but dude, a decent weight... you feell your arm become THE TREBUCHET! My Goodness, the power and accuracy with the long slign is flippin scary deady easily accurate with natural throw, is like an extra arm or leg with extra joint, freakin WILD power. So fun! Am so glad I made one for a friend, and we go slinging together for fun and excuse to go out and be MEN! BWAHA! But true, throwing is a human skill... we are good at it, and with that extra arm and joit sling, or spear throwing atlatl woomera whatever, that extra joint ..... what power. The lever is indeed king.

How did you get it to look like that? When I tried to make one but the 'bunny ears' wanted to pull up or down causing it to look more like fabric. But on yours, the cord you used to weave through the 'bunny ears' came together nicely and hid them. sorry, I don't know the proper terms! Edit: I figured it out! I was trying to keep everything too tight! I needed to give the 'weaving cord' more slack so that it didn't tug on the 'bunny ears' Looking great now! 😃Thanks for the vid!
