Old age is scary because you lose agency. It isn't just a bad back. What happens when you lose your memories? You lose yourself. You mentally die. Imagine not being able to just get up and do things. You have to worry about your health. You lose agency over what you can do. That loss of free will is terrifying to people. Plus the fear gets worse when you are reminded of it

It wouldn't necessarily have to be just power but while it's certainly possible that those in power are so inept at things that they don't realize to keep power it'd be simple just to give the people what they want perhaps it's people trying to fix things and shape the world the way they think it should be. I'd like to think those who misuse their power aren't doing so for the sake of maintaining it itself but like the mad scientist who is focused on solving a problem that plagues humanity they are willing to make any number of people suffer or face the worst possible ramifications without any of us really caring about whatever problem they think they need to fix in order for humanity to be better

I imagine that "aging devil" is meant to be something more like old age devil. Fear of old age being primordial devil separated from fear of growing up and developing makes more sense to me to be represented by mirrors, because in only our reflection we can see how old we are. I even heard that it's name in japanese translates as "old devil".

Head in the middle doesn't really look like a young human and could instead be interpreted as a "center" of the devil. It looks like it can put on and off the two halfs of the old face. Like I said, I don't really bother with trying to read to much into the design.

If it was only the fear of old age then it would make no sense to include that middle head instead of just making it look old throughout. Human beings don't just fear being old people they fear getting older in general. For example a grade scholar can be afraid of growing older and getting into highschool where they would think they would have mountains of work to go through, Someone who is in college may fear the concept of becoming a full fledged adult and the responsibilities it will bring and an adult will fear being too old to be able to do anything. The fear only goes away when you reach said stage in life.

I will leave my comment about the Aging Devil here. Its design strikes me different. I hope nothing bad happens to me. The Aging Devil on the whole is a scrawny body with almost no bulking. Its head is empty and covered by a split face. These elements represent the physical body aging which comes with high risk of sickness. In addition, the face, which is usually cherished as subject of beauty, is seen as a withering slate by when people age. This is a fear that many people share as people generally love beauty, seeing beauty slowing going away can wound people quite badly. However, I think there's more to the Aging Devil than the fear of physically aging. When the Aging Devil first appeared, it is seen sitting on a "throne". The base of this "throne" is comprised of 2 naked young adults without hands. Their back has to support a base with mouths "resting" on their back. I think the base represents a phenomenon in which old people no longer have the strength required to work so young people has to spare a portion of their income to support them, usually through pensions. Sadly, as the number of old people increases and the birth rate among young people declines largely due to economic factors, the stress of old people placed upon young people slowly rises. Young people has to work longer hours to generate more money as pension gets more expensive. Over time, the pressure builds up and it cracks. At that point, young people no longer want to work, or more likely, the number of young people is too small to sufficiently support the elderly. In both scenario, it's likely to cause an economic collapse or decline. This is represents by the severed hands of the base. However, strangely, the 2 adults that constitutes to the base are supporting the Aging Devil naked with tongues tingling their back. Normally, as human, we often use clothes as a mean to express ourselves, it's almost an integral to the human experience. Although being naked is one way to express ourselves, in this situation, I believes there's something much more sinister underneath. I think the nakedness is telling that the 2 adults are merely just objects of any kind you may wish for and the fact that they support the Aging Devil with their back further supports this and the pose they're making usually represents submission in a derogatory way. Finally, the Aging Devil sits on a throne, which represents power in an organized system, made up of many body parts. I think this act represents aging systems or institutions being kept around for the benefits of the elderly. These systems or institutions were built in the past to deal with problems in the past yet they're still being perpetuated in the present, burdening the present demographics. To the elderly, replacing or removing the systems or institutions that they built up is a non-option as they would lose benefits or control over something of high value, usually money or politics. Another way of looking at this refusal is that the elderly believe that what they had set up is eternally perfect and fears that there is imperfection that may cause the downfall of all. To preserve these systems or institutions, many elderly are willing to harm others. Nevertheless, at the end of the day, it is simple pettiness or refusal to change with time. TLDR, I think the Aging Devil represent the fear of these things: -Physically aging -The elderly -Expanding pension -The removal of outdated institutions, systems or cultural practices

Aging as primal fear is interesting and I feel it fits the bill of Humans when given context. Falling, embodies the fear of bodily harm. When you fall, you are almost certain to hurt yourself. Death, embodies the fear of nonexistence. The thought of being gone and forgotten is obviously terrifying. Darkness, embodies the fear of the unknown. What we can not see with our own eyes can not be known to us. Aging, embodies the fear of time. Be it the loss of time, or everlasting could be equally scary for people.

Respectfully, I agree with Aging being a primal fear alongside Death. Death itself--while a terrifying concept--can be swift, almost merciful, when compared to the slow degradation of one's own body. The fear of Aging has less to do with death and more with losing your quality of life. No more running without pain, no more being self-reliant in day-to-day life, having to know the best quality of life is behind you as you watch the person in the mirror slowly waste away. Aging is definitely not redundant since death can be caused by multiple things. Hell, countless things die in countless ways that have nothing to do with aging since forever. Being afraid of aging is definitely a primal fear that doesnt even need to involve death since being scared of losing your mental and physical faculties is a huge fear when it comes to aging and no longer being able to do anything for yourself.
