February 19, 2022: Keep your boat safe from damage when docked using these easy-to-build Docking Sticks.
In this video I will walk you through the process I use to build a docking stick. This device goes between your boat and the dock and serves as a standoff to keep your boat from beating against the dock when moored.

I found that 1" chair tips and 1" PVC work best. Great video!

When I had a boat years ago I often thought of this idea but never made anything like it because I had an older boat and wasn’t worried about it. I never imagined it would be something you could buy. Nice build, if I own a boat again I will have to make me a couple standoffs.

I found that 1" chair tips and 3/4" SCH 40 PVC works best. A nice snug fit and the SCH 40 is much stronger. I used the exact same green 48" bungee cords from Home Depot and they started to fray immediately. We'll see how long they last. Of course this design can easily be disassembled to replace the bungee cords as needed.

Good video, thanks! I found 48" orange bungees with aluminum caribiner clips at Harbor Freight, if helpful to anyone.

I wish I had kept the aluminum carabiners I had holding my boat on after a storm totally shredded. I would upgrade to a heavy-duty one to be safe.

Just an FYI, having just a bungee on both ends will allow the boat to drift with the current and still allow your boat to hit the dock... affix a solid metal hook, a rake hook that screws into the wall would work, on the one end then knot the bungee so the loop is snug on your cleat. This way you hook the sticks through the bottom of the dock cleat and then flip the other end onto your cleat. This will allow the hooks to bind up on the dock cleats not allowing them to twist and your boat to drift forwards or back. Enjoy!

I just picked up a used center console and there was a nice diy set of these in a storage compartment. Mine are two different lengths. I'm assuming the longer one is for the front cleat as its on the curve of the bow.

I built me a couple and I just used the pvc caps instead of the chair caps. Cost about the same if you can't find the chair caps.

So, if wind or a boat wake come along what prevents the boat from going forward or backwards against the dock??????
@TheWeekendAngler
@TheWeekendAngler 2 жыл бұрын
Nothing will completely prevent that, but if you tie off with a pair of sticks it'll prevent the majority of it
@dwight9668
@dwight9668 2 жыл бұрын
You want them in a "V" formation - either both pointing out towards the dock or pointing in towards the dock. This locks the boat in position and prevents it going forward or backward too far.
@korndawggy1801
@korndawggy1801 2 жыл бұрын
@@dwight9668 they also say to hook them to the dock below the rub rail of the boat. That way the boat will hit the pvc before it hits the dock.
