edit: the run got verified and was retimed to 11:50! thankfully i was wrong, it's really a spectacular run and makes me really hopeful about the future of the category It's unfortunate to say, but I think this run has a pretty fair chance of losing WR to a retime. Pausing the game to complete any action that makes progress towards completion of the run is added to the time of the run -- for example, Zylenox lost UWR because he paused for a few seconds to do math -- so the E-raying very well could push the time over 12:09. I guess we'll have to wait and see what the mods decide.

This is just false. The only pauses that are added back in as of the time I write this are pauses to calculate, which is what Zylenox did. There are no rules about other types of pauses. So unless the mods decide to expand the ruleset within the next week (and based on what I heard a mod saying last night, it doesn't seem like the majority want to do that), the time will stand more or less as is.

"perfect run" You mean, perfect run with current strats, those change every few weeks lol. I think it can go better. Spawn in a village with a ruined portal inside, get enough obsidian to complete portal + 10 to make another one, 2 fire charges or a flint and steal, a little bit of food (in the ruined portal or village chest). Make iron/diamond tools, mine a block of gold from the ruined portal, enter the nether in about a minute. Nether spawn : inside a fortress, in or right next to a nether waste or crimson forest. Find spawner, kill blazes. While you're waiting for these to spawn, trade with piglins that spawned in the fortress. In about a minute, you should have pearls and rods. Run a little in a directions perfect distance for a good educated travel, get back to the overworld in 3 minutes time. You take one and a half more minutes to find a dig to a stronghold, enter the end, and beat the dragon in 5:30. May get sub 5 if you're extremely quick to find a stronghold. Now this is a truly perfect run. No bastion. Is it a total ginormous rng fest ? Yes, yes it is. 4 main rng factors that may kill the run : Piglins spawning in fortress ? Piglins giving you all the pearls/string with only 9 ingots ? Good blind travel ? But well, perfect run won't be achieved without luck.

It however is insanely unlikely but everything in this run is possible. 0:00 (Spawn) - Ruined portal 6 at around 0, 0 - Chest with: - 36 Iron Nuggets (2 Stacks) - 12 Golden Carrots - Golden Axe (Efficiency IV) - Golden Sword (Looting III) - 2 Obsidian - Flint and Steel - Golden Chestplate (Protection IV) - Tree next to portal 0:25 (Nether entry) - Treasure Bastion at point blank distance. - Chest has: - 10 Obsidian - 1 Gold Blocks - Chest draws piglins near, giving the oppurtunity to barter. - 4 trades - 16 Pearls (2 Trades) - 48 String (2 Trades) 1:00 (Bastion exit) - Pearl into blaze spawner at fortress in touching quadrant at minimum distance. - Kill 2 blaze, they drop 3-4 rods each cause of the looting sword. - Leave fortress. 1:35 (Overworld) - Blind at ocean with open exposed portal room. - Fill in portal. 2:00 (End Entry) - Enter exit portal in 1 minute. - Get a god perch. 3:00 (Credits) +~20 seconds for crafting 3:20 Game beaten.

I think the best nether I've ever seen was a stables with a blaze spawner inside one of the ramparts, I got it during an FSG run and was shocked it could even happen, its probably one of the most rare nethers you could get, but it is possible

As far as i understand, only time needed to do calculations in your head while paused gets added to in-game time but it's all a bit arbitrary

@@xekolaxo that's correct, but this only applies to pausing while triangulating to search for the stronghold (that's why zylenox' time went up after retime). Normally, paused time is not counted, but pausing does desynchronize the ingame timer a little bit, so after retime it should go down a couple of seconds.

Just as he enters the nether, he pauses while cheking the E cord, the same thing happens when he leaves the bastion to look for fortress, when he can't find his flint&steel, he pauses to rethink what to do... I'm pretty sure a 6:30 RSG glitch less 1.16 run will happen at some point in the future although it will probably take a long time. I would estimate 4 or 5 years at least. An important rule in speedrunning is to never say never. Because anything can happen.

Little reminder that: speedrunning becomming more known -> more players trying -> more chances for a perfect seed being found in rs, thats also why now one wr doesn't last more than a week. (Little example: lets say one player has a one in a million possibility to find the perfect seed, would take him a really long time, now imagine 10 players are trying together, now the time is 10 times lower and so on, without counting more new strats ecc...)

Yeah. There are probably 50 or more runners who are capable of a time like this given a good enough seed and on a good enough day. Obviously some will have better chances than others due to playing better or more consistently overall. Or just playing more.

They should definately add in time paused to "think about the next move" since it still involves the speedrun iteself. I can understand pausing because of bathroom break but if you are pausing to get an advantage it's different.

i really *really* don't think pauses on nether entry should count towards the final time of the run. i understand that the player can gain information while the game is paused-which on the surface is very similar to pausing for stronghold triangulation-so maybe the time spent paused there should count? But if you force players to eat that timeloss to be able to use E strats, then people with worse pc's will be at a significant disadvantage for playing out seeds where you can't immediately see a bastion. For example, a good friend of mine often has to wait 15-20 seconds for chunks to load in if the bastion is far. The same absolutely cannot be said of triangulation pauses, since there is no hardware limitation that i can think of related to throwing an eye. other than that, i agree with pretty much everything you said-great video with a lot of cool stuff to say. I've enjoyed watching all of these wr analyses over the past month or so and i think it's good and well produced content, keep it up chief

With the current information from the snapshots, do you think Speedruns will get faster or take longer with 1.17? The new underground should slow down the stronghold search quite a bit, but cracks also exist, which might even shorten it on some lucky seeds.
