I'm going to be installing my sye this weekend . When you say to put case in 4 wheel drive before removing, would that be 4 wheel hi, or low? And I noticed you didn't have to cut that round shift stub down to an inch, like some do( I guess that's only if you don't have enough clearance when it's all the way in 4 wheel drive??) Oh and thanks for the great info, I wrote down everything, step by step👊🤓👍

Yes because it helps with getting everything aligned when putting back together and keep the TC in locked in 4lo. As for cutting I suspect that would be need to be done on older 231 TCs . I would just measure it and see for yourself and if so cut it! Thanks for watching I appreciate it 🍻

I'm new to rebuilding anything, is there not a gasket for the case halves? Like do I have to use the tubes?

Ah I did my sye kit a while ago and now I noticed the front output shaft has a tiny bit of play. I gotta pull the whole thing apart again to change that front bearing? I'm an auto tech by trade but that was my first time opening up a tcase. Nobody ever wants to fix em just swap in a used one lol. I'm pretty good at cheating the service info just wondering if any of y'all have done those particular bearings. I'm a lil lazy working on my own stuff and damn I'm ready to hit the trails. I spend all day fixing other people's cars so when it's my turn for my stuff I'm tired haha

If I remember correctly the front is the same as the rear, once you remove the outer seal, snap ring and split the case halves the bearing can be removed and new ones dropped in , I do not know if the bearing needs to be pressed in but I’d plan to have a press handy when doing the job. But I’m pretty sure it’s tapped in and out of the case half. Good luck and thanks for watching 🍻

@@ATEMOFFROAD I think I'm gonna rebuild it with the wide chain kit and 6 gear planetary. I'll run it like this till I save up enough to do so a long as it's quiet enough. The jeep was rough when I got it and whatever I replace I do quite a few steps above stock. I just can't help myself lol.

@atem offroad looking at a tj tomorrow that allegedly has a busted t case. Is there anyway I can ruleout manual trans problems without the t case working?

Sweet find, TC is the last line of output to the front and rear wheels , Is the housing cracked/ leaking? Chain disconnected? If the Chain is disconnected you may be able to still drive it , just no 4x In the front. Housing cracked. Not a good idea to drive. The TC can be removed then the trans can be checked unfortunately it will be under no load.

The jeep has a good title, 50% tread on off brand 35's, cut front fenders, and the body/interior is a 6/10. The gentleman is asking $2500, surely I can't go wrong at that price right? (I'm in Florida BTW land of the 16k rusty yj)

@@autotek7930 there were a few 231 that didn’t need to be cut. If your in 4lo and the shaft sticks out of the case more the 1” will need to be cut not sure why some and some didn’t have to be cut . Mine didn’t

@@ATEMOFFROAD I remember that measurement... that's why I asked lol. First one I've seen that didn't cut it or mention it. I'm not even sure what all mine has a far as driveline. I'm waiting on my lift kit to get here before I go mess with it. I got quite a few parts to install
