The point about children coming from the same family and not achieving the same level of success despite equal opportunities is on point. My brother is a billionaire but he chose not to go to college and instead do business. My other siblings and I have degrees and other education past college but we've not been able to get to the heights he has. I have millions to invest, but I'm not a hustler or a risk taker so I'll never achieve what he's achieved. So, let's just accept that we can't all reach the top and support those who have reached there instead of stressing about it and feeling jealous.

Here in America they charge you a penalty and take out 20% in taxes if you withdraw money from your 401k before age 59 or 62. This discourages people from withdrawing. I've been saving a little money every month and its grown to over 100k just through the power of compounding. I wish companies in Kenya can introduce the penalty and tax system to our retirement investments so people can have something left to see them through their old age.

@@Holysimba21 its not the banks that do it, its the government that will tax you. This is something they do to discourage early withdrawal. Its like a forced savings. Interesting conversation here. At time 1:15:13, I think if you have 500K as a lumpsum and Mike contributes 2K per month and both of you need to withdraw the money in 20 years, you'll have more than Mike considering the compounding interest. Take an example, if the annual interest is 10% then you'll have 550K while Mike will have Kes. 26,400. Hence, 50K and 2.4K p.a. Eventually, 500K wins over the period if they start at the same time and maintain.

To be fair they were likely paying school fees for 4 / 5 / 6 children into their late fifties or even 60s (especially the men with their endless side babies and secret families, but none of these financial conversations talks about this 😂😂), supporting relatives, building that huge house in the village, and all the other interesting financial decisons we make. Maybe they also had medical issues to deal with, and as you know health insurance is still a thing for the privileged few. In short, they did the best they could with the information they had, given the circumstances they found themselves in. Don't ask what they were doing, if you were in their position with the same information, maybe your children would be asking you the same question. Be the one who breaks the chain and starts a new thing.
