That was some great fishing! I’m pretty sure I fished with your cuz Quentin years ago when he guided at Brabant Lodge. He was guiding when my brother and I caught our 1st trophy pike over 20 lbs each on the same morning about 100 yards from each other. If I recall correctly, we were in the section called Beaver Lake. We’ve got some great memories from the Great Slave lake with great people! My personal best was caught and released there, and weighed 26 1/2 lbs and was over 46 inches in length. Tight lines boys!

Andrew - grab a roll of 80lb Fluorocarbon LEADER material (not the fishing line, but the actual leader material) and tie up some 16" to 18" inch leaders for yourself and you can thank me later. Use a quality swivel snap on one end and a heavy barrel swivel on the other. The barrel swivel ties to your main line and the swivel snap allows you to change lures out quickly. Fluorocarbon leader material is abrasion resistant, bite proof, (used on pike and musky fishing all the time with no failures), is clear, more supple compared to steel, and, most importantly, won't cut the fish or your hand when the pike go for a death roll ......I have caught hundreds of big pike on this and never had one bite through yet. I have also never been cut up since.

Lund boats are very nice. I own a 20' Pro-V, and I'm headed to Ontario tomorrow to do what you guys were doing. Three weeks ago at the resort where we stay, someone hooked a 25 inch pike from the dock, only to have a 50 inch musky slam it. It took three people to get both fish into the boat. Nice catches, guys, especially Quentin! Fun times, Captain Andrew.

Think that's would be his dad's Kicker motor used for trolling. I noticed the down rigger mount's in the boat. But yes it's nice to have that extra motor in case you main motor break's down.

DEER RECOVERY TRACKING DOG wherever there is a large body of water that can turn nasty quickly,I would say that another power source is essential,not just nice. Outboards are not the most reliable thing in the world !
@drtdbbt2588
@drtdbbt2588 5 жыл бұрын
@@CrimeVidNo pun intended in your original comment, but personally I don't see having a second motor on a vessel or Andrew's dad's boat to be considered a emergency engine. If you keep up the maintenance on inboards or outboards, run premium gas and not hit anything with the lower unit then outboard motors can be pretty reliable, lol. Motor I have built in the early 70's still run's like a champ and never failed me to start. I agree a second motor could be considered essential depending on the destination a person is heading for such as big waters in case your main engine breaks down and you have mean's to equip or carry a extra motor on your vessel. "Nice" to have a second motor relate's to my terminology that Andrew's dad's boat was mounted with one which was a smaller horsepower engine that on a boat such as the size of a 20 ft., Lund Alaskan is typically used for trolling at slower speeds that your bigger horsepower engine's can't achieve, hence the down rigger plate mounts inside his dad's boat which down rigger's are used for trolling for such fish as Lake Trout on Great Slave Lake. So the way the boat was rigged in the video I wouldn't classify or term it as having a "emergency engine" is all. Best safety measure's or emergencies for vessels on big bodies of water or any water's are PFD's, flotation device's, marine radio, cell phone, flare's and some form of making sound(whistle, clap hands, shout, yell, etc..). because who's not to say your second, third, fourth, etc..motor might not start or even breakdown?
@CrimeVid
@CrimeVid 5 жыл бұрын
DEER RECOVERY TRACKING DOG Sorry, I do not agree with you. If the wind gets up and you do not have at least steerage way, you are in deep shit,even with something to use as a drogue. Now, communications, If you can tell anyone at all that you are in trouble,can they get someone to you in time ? if you can keep your bow in to the wind, at least you can give yourself time. More reliable modern outboards ? I should bloody well hope so !! but I do know that an engine on a boat is most likely to let you down when it gets iffy, with water all over the show things change. However, you go your way....

Are those full size flotation suit's you guy's wear, think a person would roast to death wearing them instead of a life jacket. Course depends on water temperature if you happen to fall in the water!!! Those mentioning you need Musky baits should send you some free one's for what they cost to buy them, lol. Plus they'd need to send you one of their expensive rod/reel combo's just to toss lure's that size.
@quentinsteinwand4364
@quentinsteinwand4364 5 жыл бұрын
yes, those are full size floater suits, and yes they do get hot. you're right about the tackle. I've guided on that river for many years, and big lures catch small fish. you don't need expensive gear to enjoy fishing and you catch as many fish with cheap rods as expensive ones. And you're not out a lot of money when you happen to break one on a large pike that darts under the boat. Heaviest lure I'd use would be a 3/4 oz lure, I've told guests to put their big lures away and not to bring them in my boat again, kill to many small fish with them lures. Anything bigger or recommended by a salesman is just trying to take your money lol.
@drtdbbt2588
@drtdbbt2588 5 жыл бұрын
@@quentinsteinwand4364 Got that right Quentin, I've worked in the outdoor industry, guided, and fished professionally. Sure big bait's or live bait can be at certain time's of the year the ticket for big fish, but Angler's first off need to think what they can afford in their tackle arsenal. Look up the price on what a Cowgirl tandem blade cost and look at the price of a Dawia, Shimano, Abu Garcia baitcaster reel cost these day's. Most rod manufacture's have a good price tag on their Musky/Pike rod's nowadays. I hate to think what a person would have to pay in Canadian dollar's just to own a new rod/reel combo as such, let alone what you have to pay for a pack cigarettes that you were smoking in the video. Lol, if a Angler is species specific such as the Muskellunge/Giant/Northern Pike/Catfish etc..it's nice to own or use lure's and rod/reel combo's designed to catch and handle big fish of the targeted species, but it not a must to have in all fishing application's. Andrew, his brother, me, you all know we have or can catch and handle big fish on the equipment we own. I'm more concerned with the quality of my fishing equipment or if purchasing new and how long it can roughly expect to last me versus if it can catch me or handle a big fish or not. That Ugly Stick Andrew bought was a smart purchase on his behalf or whomever recommended that he buy it. Shakespeare Ugly Sticks are good durable rods that will last him probably the rest of his fishing day's. If he's looking to put a new reel on it though I would go with a good medium price range reel versus some no name $20 piece of crap. He buy's good line, might as well have a good dependable/quality brand name reel on that Ugly Stick. I'm 51 and still have a old two piece XL Ugly Stick my folks bought me when I was a teenager though I don't use it much anymore.
