The Wisdom of Odin is a vlog of my journey through Norse Paganism, a way to assist others along their journey, and a place to promote a positive image for all of paganism.
While I personally declare myself as a Norse Pagan, I speak on topics that also involve aspects of Asatru, Heathenry, and other pagan identities such as Slavic/Celtic/Germanic paganism.
The Wisdom of Odin is not associated or affiliated with any orginizations religious or politcial in nature. This channel/community is inclusive to all but is also non-political.
All gatherings held through the Wisdom of Odin and its extended community are private events held and organized by the members of the community. The only service the Wisdom of Odin provides is a place to connect with others of similar beliefs in the old ways.

I literally died the 14th of November 2019, I don’t remember being transported to a major hospital in another State nor airlifted to another hospital in my own State. I do remember finding myself sitting at the end of a massive wooden table with four muscular long hair men dressed in tunics, the man sitting at the other end of the table said to the other three as he looked at me, “she has to go back”.....it was and is an incredible amazing journey. 🥰

I don't think Valhall is a reward. You have to fight and die daily and serve in ragnarok, destined to lose. Valhall is more of a duty for the most elite warriors, Hel is fine for the rest of us, we can be with our ancestors and farm and feast and live well. The nutcases like me who yearn for battle would proudly accept the duty of Valhall but not as a reward, more of an ultimate worthy task.

I love this! Coming from a Christian background, I always had a problem with a God that would condemn his people to a horrible place even if they were good people. Its so nice to know that this faith has no 'bad place' in the afterlife, and thats not even the whole point anyway!

Also my thoughts on the afterlife are that no matter where you end up it won't be a bad thing. Hel doesn't sound like a bad place it just sounds like another place. I believe Valhalla is revered as such an amazing place is because it would be such an honor for Odin to choose you to fight along side him in ragnorok. Whether I end up in Valhalla or Hel or somewhere else, I'm not scared. I'm at peace knowing my gods will take care of me.

When I was a small child I always had the feeling of being protected by someone. I still feel that way today. I can't remember it myself, but my mother said that I once said that Baldur would look after me. I always have a warm, fatherly feeling when I think of Baldur.

Great video Jacob. I want to go to the mountain in Iceland. Yesterday I asked Odin a question I had never asked Him before, and then I pulled a rune out of my bag that I had never pulled out before as the answer.(no such thing as coincidences) I asked Allfather: Which God watches over me the most? Who is the closest around me? (Because I feel him/her) The rune I got was: Ingwaz. It's Freyr. I did not expect that. So for two days I've been researching Him heavily. If you end up in Camp Buehring, Kuwait or Al Asad, Iraq, I carved Othala x Algiz bindrunes outside of where I lived for protection. I lived in Pad 1 CBKU across from the PMO, and in Al Asad, was in CHU city on the Havoc side. I was in the latter when Iran hit us with those ballistic missiles. 100 purple hearts, tons of mTBIs, and luckily I wasn’t one of them, since I was just far enough away as to avoid any injury. I like your approach. It is hard to wrap your head around with so little information to go on. One thing this faith has taught me is not to fear death, even if I am fated to go to Hel. Like you said there are many realms to Helheim. For example, Baldur did not die in battle, he was murdered by Loki, so he resides in Hel until Ragnarok and I doubt he is being mistreated. I would be honored to sit in Hel's hall, and maybe meet a few loved ones that I have read about in my genealogy study.

@@luisamagidson7872 Don't worry, think of the afterlife like you think of this world. It's a world with different sections and areas. On a literal note, while you are in the afterlife much like this world, you can enter whatever section you please by traveling. To see your loved ones, just travel to the section they are in simply by wishing for it. (Since you are spirit the laws of physics have been left behind so anything you wish for happens like in a lucid dream). For example, say if you are pagan in Valhalla but your beloved is a Wiccan in Summerland, just desire to see them in Summerland and it will happen. On a spiritual note, all afterlife paradises are actually the same place just perceived differently (based on what you expect to see)making it far easier to see your loved ones since they are pretty much in the same area as you, all people are unified in spirit.

@@ivankasonal3194 I was in a very dark place. I lost my father, family was having problems, all things where going wrong. I feel to my knees I was ready to end everything. I kneeled in this position for over an hour just breathing knees bleeding from the rocks under me. I was about to get up and end it all. When Odin spoke my name and asked why I was giving up so easily. I looked all over no one was around but a raven that was flying over. I replied with I have never given up even when I was paralyzed from an accident at work. I said I will walk again and I did. Odin spoke again true strength and knowledge comes from suffering. I looked to the sky and said I will never kneel to anything but my wife and kids. I also said I will never kneel before you Odin again. When we meet I will stand with you as brothers. Odin replied then fight. I never felt more alive and to this day nothing has overcome me and never will. Odin does not always talk to me but gives me signs and the knowledge I need when I need it. Don't go asking to speak to the God's just talk to them. They are not djinnis they will guide you but you must do the work. Stay strong my friend.

I use to ride our city transit system all the time (I have a vehicle now) but I was wearing my Valknut one day on the bus and this guy asked me about it and so I was telling him a little about myself, I use the term Norse Hedgewitch, which I've gotten a few weird looks in the Wiccan community. It was almost my stop when this guy asked me - do Vikings have a hell - meaning something similar to the Christian hell. Without even really thinking I had this pop into my head and I told him..'oh yes, you still go to Valhalla, but instead of feasting and celebrating with others....you're part of the janitorial staff.' He thought that was cool and I got off the bus. I wouldn't call myself a Christian or pagen or.... idk what I would call myself. Most of my beliefs are what I've interpreted from religious books or if I like things from story's. And when it comes to an afterlife. What made it easier for me was not to worry about it. And whenever in a Christian book they mentioned the kingdom of heaven I dobt imagine it as an actual place. I imagine it as that feeling you get when you help someone and they give you gratitude and you have that amazing feeling for the rest of the day. And I look at hell that same way. When you do something you know is morally bad or do some selfish act that bad feeling you get is a part of hell. I just see these things as... if you like things and want to try them out. something i want to mention is ive heard you have 6 minutes of brain activity after "death", which is why doctors will make an attempt to revive someone if its less than 6 minutes after the fact according to the person who told me this, which i think would send you to a dream state. Dreams feel longer than real life, and maybe when people die they see what they believe they'll see because its a dream state. And it feels like an eternity because its dream time, not real time. Of course this isnt to say that the afterlife and all isnt real, it very well could be and it could be just different for everyone. But if we look at it from a scientific point of view, this might be the reason people experience an afterlife. People may die and come back and claim to have seen different things. Like some people have died and claimed to see the christian hell, because they knew deep inside the way they'd been living and the way they'd been taught meant thats where they would go.

I don't understand why people would WANT to go to Valhalla unless they really are physical fighters, and that literal battle is an important part of their life and activities. Valhalla is solely for training for battle at Ragnarok. Does a child who battled cancer want to be a warrior, dying and resurrecting every day, doing nothing but preparing for war? Odin has more than one hall. Based on inherited culture, I'd say that most pre-Christian people would want to go wherever their family and ancestors went, because of how intensely family oriented they were. And let's face it, most people were not great warriors, they were farmers, and they lived good lives. Of course, we don't know where that is--maybe Hel. I agree with you very much that what matters is living a good and worthy life, and I think they'd agree with you too. Valhalla feels very much to me like conscription. You may die and go be with your family, but if you've proven yourself a warrior of use to Odin, you'll be conscripted for Ragnarok. And sure, he tries to make it as great as he can, it's not a restful afterlife in the slightest.

My aunt died 2 days ago. It was sad. She was just 58 yrs. Old. Cancer from smoking & drinking. She found out 1.5 weeks ago & died very very quickly. It's not hell, it's HEL or HELHEIM. And this is not a place related to the jewish / christian Gehenna or hell. Also Freyja chooses among the dead even before Odin's Valkyries. So her hall named SESSRIMNIR, the hall with the many seats, is one of the main places where the dead dwell. Apart from the two EDDAs, there are many skaldic poems, that also inform us about death and life after death. Compiling the evidence from these, which go back much further in time than the two EDDAs do, does give us some more information. In addition there are also a few examples of people being reborn within their family or blood line, but mostly only after many years. Yet these are definitely not the splendid warriors dwelling in WALHALLA, as they are bound to Odin or Wotan for all times as EINHERJAR. Also those mean murderers and alike, are staying with the serpents in their toxic underworld forever. The latter are also laid to rest in specific ways, which we also know from the sagas and skaldic poetry. They get their head chopped off and put beside their butt or between their legs, and are buried face down in their grave, with heavy stones resting on them, also torn up animals are laid around and over them, so they would make sure the evil dead person won't ever arise from the grave to keep on doing their evil thing in any of the worlds. Concerning burials, we also know, that they were sort of directed by a woman, which were named by people from other cultures "death angels". If we go into the information from poetry and sagas, we learn that certain VÖLVAs, who practiced GALDR, came from a region in the high north, now known as Finland. But also among the Germanic people were Völvas, who practiced SEIDHR, and these also were specialized in runes, healing, psychological help, foresight, and all kinds of magical actions. So we can assume, that the latter were also in charge of BLOTHs and other life and death related rituals and ceremonies.

I've only started my path towards the Gods recently. I remember I got an urge to start watching videos on Norse Paganism (Yours which i actually found) and as I went through this video I felt a sudden touch. A presence. A brown humanoid figured suddenly behind me, touching my shoulder and saying "You will be fine" And i just remember this instant feeling of peace and security that i simply started crying. I finally just....didn't fear my own death. And growing up in a christian household ( and i did this for 15 years to keep my mother happy. I'm only 25) i had always feared death. There was nothing in the religion that brought me security from it. But that sudden calling started my journey to the Gods and now so many things just started happening. I don't think nature has ever excited me this much in my life. I don't think I've ever felt so free. I watched this video for the first time maybe a month ago. I didn't say this then but I feel like i should now. I only wish i could know which God called to me. Who woke me up and even came to assure me?

For my personal beliefs, I do still hold onto hope for Valhalla one day. The world we live is tetering towards conflict everyday, the hope that are bravery will gain us paradise is very much needed now days. However I do reliaze that not everyone can reach Valhalla, so I believe we must be strong, we must act brave in this life, live with honor, and when a fight comes around, stall tall. Then I think, even if we don't go to Valhalla, we may be rewarded with Folkwanger, Freyja's realm. There we may find peace, purpose, and honor in the next life

Ever since I read in one of Machiavelli's works his thoughts on Heaven and Hell, his description of the characteristics that grant a person his place in each one, I came to the same conclusion as him: I would rather be in Hell than in Paradise, for I'm no material for a martyr or a Saint, and many great people have been condemned to the latter for simply not believing or not putting God above all. I would rather be in their company than in that of old rags and pious hearts that negate human essence, specially considering all pagans are there, according to Christian teaching. I'm a Chatolic. I won't deny that I believe in my God and his promises, but at the same time, I will never deny the existance of the Allfather and the other gods. I've always found myself amazed by the pagan religions, ever since I was little, but the norse has had a very... special influence over me. I've dreamt with them and many times have I wondered what was it like for my forefathers to worship them, what is it like to live unde the guiding hand of the gods, and I cannot accept that they were wrong just because a priest tells me so nor for how strongly the Bible repeats it. I've been very doubtful about my faith since some time ago. I don't believe it's a coincidence that when my doubts began, so did appear a collection of norse mythos that I've been buying without miss. There I decided that it's time for me to get to know more about this worldview and answer the calling that was made to me since long ago. I always say that, if I'm not ready for the answer-dont ask it. When I was ready, and I did asked, he was clear as the sky), and I'm bingewatching your videos since:) Secondly, I'm thinking about this subject since you uploaded this video, but didn't wanted to comment yet, wanted to thinking about it... I'm a practicing witch (not wicca), and with this craft a lot of cleansing, spiritwork come - also I felt, heard, saw ghosts/spirits since my childhood, so for me, its obviously there is something after death..but what? I'm also a Hungarian, and I tried to study our pantheon, the ancient Hunnic religion, gods, creatures, but christians did very well job, and almost destroyed it completely. BUT, there is something, which is common in Huns and Mansi&Khanty (closest language relatives to Hungarians) people's belief: there is NO less gods, only more: that's complicate, but I try to be short as I can: after a person die, his/her spirit can be more and more powerful with people (family, friends, etc.) who continue to talk to him, make food&drink sacrifices, offerings, etc. With time and with "worshippers" even regular Joe can be a god in after few centuries for example, because his spirit can harvest A LOT of energy, he can be more and more powerful. This kinda the answer to how can a spirit be so harmful, so strong: fear is a huge energy, and they're feeding from it, so with time they can be a poltergeist-ish, "demonic" thing. So, what if the Christian god is actually existing? Just like Odin, Thor, Skadi, etc. for us, Ukko for Finnish people, Perun, Mokosh for Slavs, also there's a lot native American, Hawaii, etc. spirits, gods. Maybe these deitys chose persons for whatever reasons, and for them (for us) there is that, their afterlife. Maybe christian heaven and hell actually existing for those, who believs it-that deity, "God/Jesus" reaching out to them, and taking them to there after death. Also with Nors, Slavic, etc. gods and afterlifes. Maybe in that moment when we die, our god will come and take our soul with them. Now here's a big question: why are so many wondering spirits? Even if they died in violent death, or can't said goodbye, have unfinished business, etc.-why their gods, guardian spirits didn't take them? What if we'll have the same faith? I thinking about this a lot, and I get one result (for myself at least): I didn't want wondering after death, also not fearing death-that's -as you said- a fact, it will happen. The only thing I know now, but also will ask for it: that Odin will take my soul: if into Valhalla, then there (even if I'm not longing that much for the real Valhall) I will accept it, and be honoured and do my best. If he will take me to the Hel..well, it looks like a Nordic place, with houses, fuckin' pastures, brewing beer and stuff-I would LOVE that, and accept it. Or whereever he think it'll be good for me, and for the bigger picture of his: I will accept it, and now I have to keep my faith in that: as much as I feel his love, guidiance, protection in my life, I'll feel it in m death, and trust him to know it better (damn, he knows everything better). I also believe in reincarnation, tho I don't really get it, what's the goal of it (I dont't think to be "buddha", to reach enlightment and purity, but who knows...yeah, Odin..), I kinda remember my past life, and I would love to NOT be born again, just really, take a final rest. I love that towards the end you mentioned the emphasis on life. In Christianity people are living to die, they are focused on the rewards after life. But in the old ways, the rewards are in living, in the day to day, and I believe that will only continue into the afterlife.
