Throughout my career, I have never left a job because of the work itself, but rather because of negative experiences with management. I have had good fortune of working with some exceptional bosses and during these times I have never felt the need to look for employment elsewhere. I believe that strong leadership and positive workplace culture are essential to job satisfaction and retention.

Toxic working environment and behavior are factors on why good employees leave. Hello TWS, greetings from the Philippines.

Hahaha, I can feel this comment and highly confirm it came from the Philippines. This is so true in the Philippines, in my past company, even though the salary was not that high, I stayed a year longer because of the environment. My batch of colleagues is fun to be with but as time goes on, the management was replaced by power-tripping buttholes, we started to get frustrated, and then finally quit our job to find another. My take on this topic is that if the employer has RAPPORT with their employees, good employees will stay. Employers who act as Bosses have a lesser employee retention rate than those employees who act as Leaders. As a good employee myself, I want to feel my work is valued and my work means something, not just profit but a sense of fulfillment.

Hello TWS! 😇 It pays to have a supportive manager who is willing to help you push a good idea through. I once had such good fortune of meeting one. Some companies only value the opinions of x rank upwards (e.g. Managers). You gotta find out which rank is the one of power, and work hand-in-hand with them to not only get things done, but also identify meaningful change. Thanks for doing this. Glad to hear about different perspectives in this format; sure it’s a daunting chat but great lessons learnt for the audience!

Currently in mnc subsidiary. The founders are leaving. Upper mnc management came as interim to give support. At the same time taking the chance to investigate and redesign things that we are doing. Can add value or do things differently. Theyve been asking us as well how we imagined we want to move forward. Its a concerted effort on both side and a process. Hopefully in few months a more structured step will come out of it.

Pretty neat podcast, it's a really refreshing discussion that y'all brought in the perspectives of both employer and employee. Thank you for staying alive and not being isekai-ed by a bus. As an employee, I think it's ok to leave after company training. At the end of the day it's usually the business needs of the company up against the expectations of both the employee and employer. And these expectations will change as time progresses ( for e.g. employee enters a different phase in life, company decides to take a different business direction), so change is the only constant. Just to add, I think there are instances where high-value employees can sometimes return back to the same company to work (maybe in a different role or senior position), and I think that's something to ponder about. Seeing as how small the industries in Singapore can be, your ex-employee or ex-employer might be someone who you might end up collaborating again in the near future (for better or for worse). Just my three (due to inflation) cents.

on the point about the employer being sian if an employee leaves after 'using up' resources on training etc. how should an employee who might have intentions to leave in the near-mid future deal with a scenario where the employer wants to send them for training/upskilling?

Turn down but don’t say that you’re planning on a move (give another valid excuse instead). It’s a big no-no to give employer an “expiry date”. It’s always good to plan before the actual thing happens. So that with anticipation, you won’t be caught unguarded and disclose carelessly.

The bell curve in civil service, means most people will get a C grade. Even a grade like C+, need justification. If you are not a local scholar grad, be prepared to waste yrs in a slow grind.

There’s also another reason why employees leave. They do not have that heavy a commitment like having young children and a home to pay for. So it’s easier to just up and leave. So to speak..

based on subject, yes it's ok to leave after training when u think grass is greener there. unless it's ur family biz.

All should replace with Food Delivery model. Paid when work and Not Paid when not working like sick. Why paid MC and paid Leave?🤣 Sales people should buy own coe and car. No employee benefits
