Let's clear this up!!! *SALT* and *SODIUM* are not the same thing, which is why I converted it since nutrition labels in the U.S. list *sodium*. *LOTS* of comments "There's a 1000 mg in 1 g". This is true, but there's *sodium* in *salt* which is what I converted to mg. Hope that clears it up! *BUT* I did make a mistake @ 1:52 and said "4 grams of fiber" vs. ".4 grams of fiber". SORRY!

I use to do the same thing as a kid, but used the Ragu pizza sauce that came i small little jars with Hormel pepperoni, or Ham, and what ever cheese was in the fridge, In fact I sometimes still get a craving for it, so I keep jar of the Ragui Pizza sauce in the pantry for when I do as it's cheap, and has a decent shelf life.

mechanically seperated meat is basically the meat which sticks to the bones of the animal after theyve cut out every regular piece of meat. They cant put a name on it cause it's a mix of every piece of meat on the animal. Now unlike chicken, pigs or cows are rather large and you dont have to use any sort of machinery to get the meat of the bones.

you talk about cheese slices with a reverence that I share. my grandma used to make an English muffin with her homemade chili sauce (vegetable relish not beef) with one or two rings of green pepper and a slice of cheese under the broiler for lunch. She has alzhimers and cannot remember the recipe for the sauce and I often dream of those lunches in grade school.

Beef, pork can be easily cut from the bones. Chicken "rib" meat cannot be removed from the tiny bones easily by hand, thus have to be mechanically separated.
@JonasRosenven
@JonasRosenven 7 жыл бұрын
Most ground beef is mechanically seperated. All the trimmings with the fat is put in a big centrifuge. This seperates as much or as little fat from the meat as needed. It is then ground up.
@BobLu
@BobLu 7 жыл бұрын
You are absolutely correct. I remember read about it a couple of years ago. I wonder maybe in the case of separating beef meat from fat, it is not required by law to be labeled as "mechanically separated"?
@JonasRosenven
@JonasRosenven 7 жыл бұрын
Bob Lu - I'm not sure why it's not labeled as "mechanically seperated". It all is, though. You can safely assume that no cut of meat that could possibly be sold as any kind of steak or brisket ect. will be used for ground beef. If so it would be labeled "ground beef made from (insert cut)".
@maylilies2961
@maylilies2961 7 жыл бұрын
From my understanding the food label "mechanically separated" refers to a meat paste or "pink slime" that is created by grinding up and straining a carcass. It's not the same as removing meat from the bone or separating meat from fat.
@lvbfan
@lvbfan 7 жыл бұрын
"Pink slime" and MSM aren't exactly the same thing, though.You can have MSM made from pork or chicken, but not beef, at least not in the United Kingdom or the United States: "Concerns were raised again when the bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE) epidemic, commonly known as 'mad cow disease', occurred in the United Kingdom in 1986. Since bits of the spinal cord (the part most likely to be carrying the BSE virus) often got mixed in with the rest of the meat, products using mechanically separated meat taken from the carcasses of bovines were at higher risk for transmitting BSE to humans. As a result, in 1989, the United Kingdom tightened restrictions to help ensure pieces of the spinal cord would not be present in mechanically separated meat taken from bovines. In the mid-1990s, the UK government banned MRM from cattle backbone, in 1998 MRM from any ruminant backbone and in August 2001 from any ruminant bone. In 2001, the government prohibited the sale of MRM beef for human consumption to prevent the spread of bovine spongiform encephalopathy. Similar United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) rules became effective November 4, 1996, and were later updated, stressing: 'Due to FSIS regulations enacted in 2004 to protect consumers against bovine spongiform encephalopathy, mechanically separated beef is considered inedible and is prohibited for use as human food. It is not permitted in hot dogs or any other processed product.'". So-called "pink slime" is just beef trimmings placed in a centrifuge (to render out all the fat) and treated with ammonia gas (to kill any bacteria).

Hey Wolfe pit - you've inspired me to make a channel about food, I'm disabled similar to you and I use food shelves a lot. I was going to do a weekly episode where I use 100 percent items I got from a food shelf in a given week. I figure it not only would help those use what's given to us in the best way but also promote the said food shelf and show those in government or any type of person responsible for allocating money to them to show them just how much their help is valued and needed.

How about a video review on the dollar store Pork and Vegtable dumplings/potstickers? I picked up a package as a snack for that evening and was not disappointed, like you say "It's not horrible but it wasn't great" except I was pleased with the product more than I expected. I'd like to hear your opinion on the product.

Not being a professional whatsoever I'll try my best to understand "mechanically seperated chicken." Beef and pork have alot of cuts compared to a chicken. So you remove the breast, legs, and wings there isnt much product left so might as well smash it into a paste right? This is all speculation

Yes Charlotte schools used to serve burnt cheese toast for breakfast back in the late 80’s to early 90’s it was served to students that qualified for free breakfast/lunch along with their rectangular pizzas with burnt cheese on top and no flavor lol

do like your making a grilled cheese, but put tomato paste; you can add your oregano and whatever else you want to the paste first. then you can use pepperonis, or we even have done bologna solo and some mozzarella or you could use provolone cheese. Make a Pizza Sandwich... they are super good. We like spicy so we add some cayenne pepper to the tomato paste too.

mechanically separated beef and pork exist, just that they usually use white meat with mechanically separated chicken as you get more meat still left over with chicken so more actual chicken

we do have some really good cheese over here actually! but yeah... the stuff you can pick up at any cheap American grocery store labeled as "cheese product" or worse... "imitation cheese product" is the weirdest shit ever. I got shredded cheese product one time that wouldn't even melt in an oven. it was basically like plastic. it's for reasons like this that people have started referring to some of this "cheese" as just plastic. lol
