Hurts my heart a bit to see this. I have such a history with this band. From tracking down their early records in Europe before they had a US deal. To helping them crowd fund their amazing live DVD. To meeting them and hanging out several times. Once spent 9 hours on a train to get to their 3rd album release show in Utrecht and how the lady at the box office kindly saved me a ticket because they couldn’t process international credit cards back then.

Delian is awesome. Charlotte simply is one of the best vocalists out there. They are really good live. You need to check out the live version of Not Enough… Charlotte really shines in that one. But any song you do by them is going to be good.

Yes indeed, glad you enjoyed it my friend! They had a lot of quality output with Charlotte but this was on a whole 'nuther level, as they say. I knew the precise moment your jaw would drop, and I was right! I caught them live a few years ago, and they were great. I think they were actually opening for Nightwish, and Sabaton was on the bill too.

Oh yeah. This song is thunderous. I kind of thought this one would be impossible to pull of live but then I watched Diana and the new crew absolutely knock it out of the park last late last year. Saw a lot of comments in the last reaction saying she doesn't have the same power as Charlotte and man are they wroooooong! That lady belted the hell out of this tune. It was wonderous. So much to explore with Delain, and they have had so many musicians and collaborators over the years you can also spin off all sorts of places. Definitely check out Merel's (second guitarist you didn't see much more than some waving hair from in this vid), new group Dear Mother. They are fabulous. Charlottes solo stuff is beautiful too, but much more laid back and cruisey. Enjoy the ride dude.

I was Delain fan for quite some time before they split up, and when that happened I realized that I was actually the fan not that much of a Delain, but one of Charlotte -- and I followed her. For me Delain disappeared the moment they lost her. For almost four years now she's making one song every month on her Patreon, she already released two her solo albums, did a little solo live tour and a number of stunning collabs with different artists. This was awesome. I've only heard this song and the Quest and the Curse and liked that too. So there's another band to dive deep into.. You're right about how much music you've discovered, the playlist is approaching 500 songs! The random intros are better IMO. The band is basically all new members except Martijn. Charlotte, Joey, Merel, Timo, Otto; they all left at the same time. (Well, Merel left before that, but Charlotte and the others all left together.)

The current guitarist and drummer are essentially the original members of Delain: They have been in the band since Delain turned from a studio project into a touring band, then left, but now they are back. From a creative point of view, the core of the band has always been a trio: Martijn, studio guitarist Guus Eikens and Charlotte. After Charlotte's departure, 2/3 of this creative core remained - that's why Delain still sounds like Delain without radical changes in their music, they are still the same people.

Have to tell you, I was a bit confused when I heard The Quest and the Curse for the first time. Why? Well, I have been a fan of Delain for about three years now and I learned to love them with Charlotte. However I felt her voice was/is a bit nasal sometimes and I'm not usually a fan of that. So technically I should like Diana's voice more, but suddenly I noticed that I miss the personality of Charlotte's voice. 😅 So now I have a new appreciation for her singing. ❤ But, whether it's Charlotte or Diana, Delain is one of my power trio of (symphonic) metal bands with Nightwish and Within Temptation. Epica is close fourth.

YESSSSS I was hoping you'd do this one soon after enjoying the last Delain song. This song is absolutely without a doubt (imo) Charlotte's peak vocally in the band. The album this comes from was the last one with this lineup and it's a shame beacuse they finally NAILED their sound 10/10 with an extremely good album just to have some presumed behind-the-scenes issues break it up. Hard not to feel the keyboardist Martijn was at fault when every member besides him left, but it is what it is...strongly recommend you try out "Burning Bridges" next as it features Charlotte doing some harsh vocals and an unbelievably heavy-hitting chorus.

Just one more rabbit hole to fall down, truly there is too much good music in the symphonic metal genre for you to cover it all, not to mention all of the other categories of music. Charlotte did a trio with Simone Simons not too long ago, the title escapes me at the minute, but the number is special.

Of course, reacting almost back to back it's hard to not make comparisons. All I can say is Delain is lucky to have had 2 great singers. I liked them both, Charoltte might have the edge but it could have also been the difference in songs, tone, and timbre that makes me say that. Like trying to compare NWs Ghost Love with Elan, or Elvenpath. They're both good songs, but way different so it would be difficult to judge which one is better. Rambling on here, but yes i enjoyed this one as well. ❤ and ✌️

The thing with this song is, its on a totally other level than what they did before, at last for all i know. Their older stuff was nice and OK, but nothing like this one. So for me in the end the song you first reacted to with the new singer was even better than most of their older stuff, but just not like this one. Btw.: that has nothing to do with the singers at all, its just that the compositions of the older stuff were not on that level.
