Malleus Maleficarum roughly translates as 'hammer of witches' as does Hexen Hammer, it was a book written by the Inquisitor Heinrich Kramer, in 1486, it was a treatise of witchcraft, and sorcery. (To give you an idea of Heinrichs character, prior to writing the book, his obsession with the sex life of one of his targets had got him kicked out of her trial) The book was used to justify the secular courts prosecution of (overwhelmingly) women during the Renaissance and later.

The interesting part is that the Papal Inquistion at Cologne comdemned the book for promoting unethical and illegal procedures. He was also expelled from Innsbruck by the bishop there who considered his ravings about witches "crazy and senile". A Dominican friar who was tasked by the Pope to investigate heresy and witchcraft in the same region apparently did everything in his power to stop Kramer from doing any of his crazy. In short we are talking about a book by a guy the actual Inquisition and Church in these times considered insane and off his meds... so obviously his work was adopted for witch trials 150 years later by mock citizen courts...

I really like "Metnotstand im Märchenland" by Feuerschwanz. (Maybe because I am a beekeper who makes his own mead.) If you like something more in the direction of "fun metal" there is a chance you might also like this.

Feuerschwanz means firetail. The song is about the book written to condem witches, the witches hammer. With this book the witch hunts began. Greetings from a german in Guatemala.

Schwanz means not only tail but also dick, prick, cock, pecker. Therefore "Feuerschwanz" is ambiguously and so are many of their screamingly funny songs.

You should really look at their cover of "Ding" with Malissa Bonny or the cover of I see fire to see then sing in English. For a similar band I would suggest Saltatio Mortis either something newer like "Loki" or older in "Wo Sind Die Clowns?". Folk/medieval rock/metal has from what I can tell a pretty healthy scene in Germany. For bands along the lines of Rammstein you have Eisbrecher, Megaherz and Ost+Front.

The Malleus suggests torture to effectively obtain confessions and the death penalty as the only certain remedy against the evils of witchcraft. At the time of its publication, heretics were frequently punished to be burned alive at the stake[8] and the Malleus encouraged the same treatment of witches. The book had a strong influence on culture for several centuries."

Both are typical power metal bands, both are really old. But both sing about different stuff and have different sound.^^ I would not call them a copy or nearly all metal bands are copies from each other^^
