I never tire of seeing the reactions on the faces of those who are just 'discovering' our Tommy. It brings such joy to us all here in Australia. A true guitar legend of The Great southern Land. So many more to view guys. Thanks so much for this one. Waiving from Australia

I agree. I've watched so many of these 'Reactions' on Tommy's Classical Gas, especially the neck bending bit where he gets the most reactions. But the sad fact is, had Tommy been an American, there wouldn't be these reactions. He'd be so well known. Such a shame that America blocks out so much of the world's, not American, talented people. at least these 'Reactors' are giving me a bit of hope. Let's see how these two go when they Review Initiation. Looking forward to that.

Aw come on, Everyone knows by now about the true alien, Tommy Emmanuel, who crashed to earth in Australia! The best guitar player on the planet, EVER. Thanks Land Down Under. We appreciate the gift!

The tune at 6:04 is from a 1960s guitar super group, The Ventures. It is called "Walk, Don't Run".

Love Tommy🎶💯. I had the pleasure of seeing him twice in person and he puts on an incredible one man show that you can't even believe it is over after two hours! The records he listened to growing up was Chet Atkins! It reminds me oh how Stevie Ray Vaughan taught himself to play guitar by listening to records. He also thought the Rhythm and lead came from the same guitar so he can play both simultaneously and never bothered to learn to read music.

There are a couple of Tommy collaborations to come, then The Journey and Initiation. Hoping to end with Tommy and Phil playing Sultans of Swing.... I've always loved listening to Tommy. He's such a nice guy. Glad I got to meet him way back when....

It would be funny if he was quality control for a guitar company. Each one would have to go through that “torture” test before it was shipped. I could see him at the end saying, “yeah, this one works.”

Great guy, used to chat to him at Ron Leigh's music factory in Highett, once had a good talk about Larry Carlton, couldn't find a more warm genuine person, I can vouch for that

This song was composed and played originally by Mason Williams . To usnderstand just what Tommy has done here you have to hear and see the original and some of the covers . Glen Campbell played on the oringinal version as part of the Wrecking Crew , he has a version of it with a full orchestra you should check out .

I do not deny the man's talent. Listen to the original, as performed by the writer, Mason Williams. It's beauty is in the dynamics and simplicity. Try it, you'll like it.

Tommy Emmanuel has been playing professionally since he was 6, here he is in his 50s, he is one of 6 certified guitar players ever, another one is the legend Jerry Reed. I saw him perform live and it was an amazing show. When he was learning to play he was not aware that the bass guitar existed so he often plays incorporating bass lines into his standard guitar playing.

Tommy and his brother Phil used to play around the pubs when i was young. if you watch Tommy he is playing the bass line with his thumbs and the lead and rhythm with the fingers that it why it sounds so full he had ZERO training picked it all up by ear and still can not read music

If you listen to the song "To live is to die" by Metallica you'll notice that the middle part of that song is based on the main riff from "Classical Gas".

He also learned from trying to figure out how his hero, played. When he heard Chet Atkins play a song on the radio, he knew he was playing the whole thing by himself. Everyone tried to tell Tommy it was a recording trick, but he knew it wasn't so methodically worked it out. Later he was amazed to see Chet play it on a video or something and noticed he used a thumb pick. So Tommy had to teach himself that. Eventually he got to meet his hero Chet Atkins and play with him. The recorded an album or two together. Chet named Tommy one of 5 Certified Guitar Players. CGP is actually printed on the neck of his guitars.

8:09 not something just anyone should try with any guitar since you run the risk of snapping the neck off, however you can see the abuse he puts his poor guitars through so Neck Bending to get that unique *oooiinnggg* sound is something normal for those hardy bullet proof instruments he favors so much. The man is truely a genious and recognised by many as top two if not the very best acoustic guitarists in the world.
