History + Music = Powerful. It's what Sabaton does. The lyrics are Lemmy's, though.

When the call for more men came. The promise to fight along side those who you knew was stated resulting in the ''pals battalions'' while the romance of war still lingered. 100.000 was expected to join voluntarily at the beginning of 1914 with-in four months 1 million men across England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland had joined. Some of which were underage boys looking for adventure. Its estimated that around 250.000 underage soldiers served in the British army till the end of the war. The youngest recorded soldier at the Battle of the Somme was Sidney Lewis aged just 12.

The credit actually do have a point aside from shouting out all the awesome people that made the video possible. "And now there's nobody remembers our names" *proceeds to give names to all the background soldiers who say nothing during the entire video*

The missus gots the feels. This song hits home for me since my middle brother served in the US army. In Iraq, in the stryker, my brother and his Sergent were the only survivors when and IED took it out. His comrades were all kids who grew up alongside him, called our mom: Mom. Boys. Children, I grew up, as the oldest sibling, remember getting that phone call from mom, in tears, so many of her kids, not blood, were dead. Mom was the neighborhood mom. Watch every single one of those young men grow up from being annoying little pricks to their sibblings to being THE proud Momma when every one of them chose to serve. Let's just say that Dad was a way bigger man than I when Momma found out what happened to that Stryker. Ain't no one who can have a dry eye when Momma breaks down when her boys from another mother are...well...yeah...let's just leave it at that.

Sabaton did a great job, doing their thing with it, but for me, the original with Lemmys mourning voice grabs the heart even more. Just my opinion. If you don't know it, maybe have a listen.

Yeah, it's hard to compete with the raw feeling of the original but as far as tributes go, this is Holy shit-levels of good. I bet Lemmy would have loved it too.

I did a bunch of searching on the names of the soldiers listed in the credits, and the ones I could find (some names were just too common, I'm afraid) came up with WWI and WWII heroes who fell in battle, awarded the Victoria Cross, the Medal of Honor, and other awards. Also were the historic figures of Leonidas of Sparta, Robert the Bruce of Scotland, and so on. Somewhere buried in the comments on the Sabaton video is my break down of each person and what they did, and what awards they received.

This song is a cover by Motorhead and was recorded as a tribute to Lemmy, who has passed away. That's why there is a photo of him and the "Motorhead" flags. Think that "Christmas Truce" is an original song by Sabaton, and 1916 is a cover. Regards.

Just to put it in context, the British Army suffered more casualties on the first day of the Somme than the entirety of American losses during the Vietnam War.

I wonder why humans still do war at all. Combat never accomplished anything of any lasting value. Every nation that starts a war knows from the beginning they will have to eventually sit and talk. Maybe if generals still fought next to their armies instead of hiding in trailers at the rear or even all the way back at headquarters, they wouldn't waste lives like they were nothing. Maybe a close relative of the person ordering an attack should be in the leading unit. Better yet, maybe these politicians should stop being cowards and actually face their enemies themselves across a diplomatic table.

Respect, that's what it's about. With those casualty lists what do you think the work load was like for the Medics, Doctors and Nurses who had to take care of those casualties? I read a book about an Australian Nurse in WW1 and she said that at one point she was doing 18 hour shifts for 2 weeks with no break even on Saturday and Sunday. And that was just one hospital in France, some people complain today because they have to get up and go to work for only 8hrs?
