I love your reaction! This is a classic! The poetry, Patti, her band! Amazing stuff we will never experience again.

I was lucky enough to see Patti Smith live in Toronto and I was freaking buzzing for about three days afterwards. So much raw energy.

She was on SNL in the 70's the night before Easter singing this song. My husband was a teen just getting in, his dad was in the chair reading the paper. Hubby turns on SNL and Patti starts singing, "Jesus died for somebody's sins but not mine..." His dad throws his paper in the air and storms out. Hahaha

I got the "Horses" album in early 1976 when I was 12. It blew my mind and showed me the way. All hail Patti!

I saw her 11 years ago, almost 35 years after this was recorded, and I can confirm she still had it - it was truly a religious experience. She *is* the Wildmother, the Triple Goddess, Elen of the Way, a punk rock poet who is also the mother of all creation.

Great choice , nice reaction , congratulations. Patti Smith is not only the great pioneer of punk rock and the one who pleasantly shook our youth with her glorious album Horses that I still have on vinyl, she is also a multifaceted artist playing writing, photography and more. Her performances are epic, her somewhat destroyer presence was very fresh and brutal. I am from Barcelona, Patti loves this city where she usually comes to perform and also recite poetry and cultural events. Very generous and grateful. The last time he came to visit us he went to the best 3 Michelin star restaurant, considered twice the best in the world, right after eating he went into the kitchen and performed Because the Night a cappella for everyone. Keep on rocking guys ❤

I had the great pleasure of attending numerous Patti Smith concerts in the 1970s. She had this unique way of building excitement and whipping the whole audience (several thousands at the shows I attended) into this frenzy of musical/performance experience. She understood performance art as well as Lenny Kaye understood his discordant, rhythmic guitar lines and accentuating guitar riffs. She was able to transform the whole venue into a bopping mosh pit. Two decades later I saw her at an outdoor concert with my brother-in-law. Same thing happened. Now well into our 40s or older everyone was happily on their feet dancing and bopping to “People Have the Power”.

I guess the birth of punk was in 1964 when the kinks recorded " You really got me" and Them " Gloria " Thems live rendition on the show " Ready Steady go" Love your reactions, your easy charm and deep respect for all forms of music.

great vibes, I was present at this small concert when it was recorded for the German ROCKPALAST Music series, and Patti was devastated, she pulled two line of coke (probably) between two songs it could be seen from the front row where I stood, the result of which can be seen at the end when the stage goes wild; it was the same a few days later at the official concert in Cologne (Spent all my money to buy a ticket) in the ominous Sporthalle (torn down since), where she came creeping from under the drums podium awhile performing GLORIA, and the concert ended there with here being carried away! She had a few detoxification cures and did well again after, although remaining unstable, but still a great songwriter and performer, Patti you changed my youth in terms of music, and I am grateful to you for that which your songs have given me! She will always have a special place in my heart!

I still love the lyrics of Patti. She sings so intensive. And of course "Horses" was one of my favorites. And the song "Piss Factory" is for me another favorite song of her too. I have so much wonderful memories of my punk time ... and I'm still not a normal guy, haha.

She had close ties to Blue Oyster Cult, co-writing with them and singing on a song or two. She also dated their keyboard player for many years. She has such a strong, pure voice.

No, old school punk shows had stage divers and thrashers. You can still see that spirit of comradery in smaller shows. Patti is one of the most important poets and writers in the past 60 years. She never cut a corner in her art.

That woman is the only reason I'm not ashamed of being from New Jersey. Singer Patti Smiths mother was a Jehovah's Witness. Patti had a strong religious upbringing and a Bible education, but left organized religion as a teenager because she felt it was too confining; much later, she wrote the line "Jesus died for somebody's sins, but not mine" in her cover version of Them's "Gloria" in response to this experience.

If you liked the, you should really listen to "Horses" from this album. Don't watch a video, just listen to the poetry. It runs a gamut from rape to madness to suicide and no one on the planet could have written or performed it but her. Do it, please.
