Diamanda Galás comes to mind...
@jen.g.3 жыл бұрын
“How do I break you before you break me?” That line gets me every time. This album is so dark, yet so cathartic for survivors. I remember putting it on at work one day (with headphones) because I had heard so much about it…and I had to stop almost immediately. I came home, got in bed, put on my good headphones, and started it….and I cried the hardest I’ve cried in years. Kristin’s music is the very definition of raw and visceral. What she creates is something very special. It’s unfortunate that so many fans of heavier music haven’t heard of her.

I listened to this at work too. By myself though, seeing as I knew of the noise background. And... Yeah... Fuck. Bleak, painful, raw and vicious. And genuine. Incredible recording. 'I don't eat, I don't sleep' is just harrowing. The screams... Also, the mixing on this is fantastic, the tape hiss, the layering of the vocals, the echo on the piano. It's incredible mixing and mastering. And such good use of damaged equipment to create an atmosphere

Exactly my experience too. I’m fresh out of an abusive marriage. I had my AirPods on one morning an listened to this album and I was sobbing at the park.

I absolutely adore her. I’m not a crying person when it comes to music but “Caligula” and her newest album made me cry up to like the 3rd or 4th listen through

I saw her live recently and when she performed this song I was balling my eyes out. As someone who has been through SA this song hits me to my core and I thank her for this beautiful masterpiece.

This album with her latest release are on the world of their own. Caligula is the most non-metal metal album I've ever heard

I think the two components that might be why she gets that metal connotation are her use of screaming vocal delivery and the grounding of her music by use of classical elements. I'm not sure what I call the genre she makes. There's nothing else quite like Kryten's music. Despite that, I've been in love since first listen because of both the familiar and unfamiliar that she brings to the table. The execution is flawless on her most recent release in particular.

I've only heard about Lingua Ignota in passing, finally decided to give her a listen today... damn, I heard about the fallout with Daughters, but I never listened to them, so I didn't realize she was the one caught up in that madness. You can really feel the chaos of it all in this song. When she started screaming "HOW CAN I BREAK YOU BEFORE YOU BREAK ME?" I actually started tearing up. She was in pain. I felt her pain. Holy fuck... 😳

Actually that song was written about a previous abusive partner she had before meeting the asshat from daughters.

"Lingua Ignota" it's from latin, the term was created by Hildegard von Bingen in the middle ages. I love this music beyond measure

In Italian "lingua ignota" means unknown language, they're words still used to this day, I'm not sure what it means in Latin though but that's super cool

Sad that many people haven't heard of her. A true legend. I'm sure even Lingua Ignota would cite Diamanda Galas' artistry as inspiration.
