Beautiful shirt guys and..people...the technic of this song is out of the World . Great bass line . Alex Van Halen who is a Beast stays very clear and relatively Easy in this track . But the precision of the timing is supernatural eheh as well the bass drum kicks

In an era where a lot of bands would pretend to play over the studio track, they remained true to their music. I just love the commitment to be a band and do live takes. The musicianship of the highest calibre.

Always loved Sammy at 6:56. 'Yeah, this is a real concert!' as if someone near the front thought it might be tracked and lip-synched. Prophetic. Not long after an interviewer asked Eddie what advice he would give to a young, aspiring musician. 'Learn to dance' was the sardonic reply.
@armynurseboy2 жыл бұрын
Anyone who's listened to the studio tracks can tell instantly that these are really live. Eddie doesn't always play his fills the same way, and you can hear the minor mistakes. That they can play live almost as clean as a studio track is a testament to how good of musicians they were. Of course, playing live can also bite you in the ass, as this is also the infamous show, where later on in the evening Poison performed, and CC Deville was drunk off his ass and was messing up all over the place.

Pound cake has been my fav. Sammy era Van Halen song and I have NEBER realized about how you said about the “drill” being a metaphor with “poundcake” I can NOT believe I didn’t put those 2 together like you did. And I’ve listened to this song since 1991. Wow

That is so cool, i remember that performance, i saw Van Halen only once in my life and it was on that tour for the album For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge with Alice In Chains opening for their first album. Was a great show. I was too young to see them with David Lee Roth back then so i saw them with Sammy, i love both era anyway. Keep up the good work guys and cheers from Montreal, Canada!!

Hey, Mikey’s bass was crazy in this song. He is the king of 16th-note bass rhythm. In Chickenfoot’s “Turnin Left” he does it even faster with with some killer fills.

I saw them in concert in August 1991, and needless to say, it was an amazing show! Conveniently, Sammy Hagar happens to be my favorite solo artist of all time, and Van Halen is in my top two favorite bands of all time. ... The album that this song came off of is the third of four Van Halen albums that Sammy was on. In this MTV show, I'm glad to hear that Eddie kept exactly to the album. If you want a real treat, you should watch the official video for this song, there are even a couple famous faces in it other than Van Halen's. ... By the way, Van Halen holds the record for for the most ever number 1 singles, with 11 of them.

Sammy Hagar is the coolest down to earth guy in rock n roll. He lives in Cabo Mexico, and has his own liquor drink business and restaurants, and clothing line. He looks chill, and he is chill like a margarita. But when the red rocker is rockin’, he hits you like tequila.
