Mylène is the Queen of music videos in France, and especially in the 80s, 90s, 2000s She is also, with Laurent, very good at writing dark themes on catchy and even joyful music. The proof with "C'est une belle journée" ("It's a beautiful day")

the career of Mylene can't be analyzed without Laurent Boutonnat, he is the composor of all her songs till 2010, director of her clips till end of 90's, and co art director with Mylene for most of all her lives, he s a genius....He directed few long movies, as Giorgino in 1994, a horror tale during the First World War, it's about a doctor come back from the front looking for children missing in a dark orphelinat with Mylene Farmer and a exceptional international casting, the duration of this film is more than 3hours, you could have of look of the trailer in English ;) btw the film was a commercial flop => that's why mylene moved after to LA with the Californian actor of Giorgino, Mylene started to work on anamorphosée album, one of her best ( the rockest one you like), then Laurent Boutonnat joined them for composition and production. The character of Giorgino is played by Jeff Dalhgren who also guitarist for Mylene from 1995 to 2000, Live 1996, and Mylenium Tour. Thank you so much Jon and dolly you are amazing ;))

This song has become a real LGBT anthem which was really strong when it was released in 1987. This song is present during each of her tours asking her audience to take it back with her (which is not complicated since her audience, of which I am a part, knows her repertoire by heart)!

Think the important thing about the story line of this video is that the doll is brought to life by that “witch”, and then she turns the girl back into a doll, but as you can see at the end, he is having problems carrying the doll, which is because the girl turned back into a doll, but keept the weight of a human adult, making it a very sad ending. Not only did he lose his “newly” found love, but its also not possible for him to stay together / keep the doll due to its heavy weight. I might be wrong, but that’s how I’ve understood the video from the very first time I saw it 😀

Writing serious lyrics to catchy tunes is Mylène's trademark. She likes to approach the theme of madness, what could be crazier than wanting to dance to deep and sad lyrics...

Mylène was the queen of music videos in France (and she is still on the game isn't it?)

Oh, yes. I think so. But video clip support is less important today compared to the time and this for all artists.

Did I mention "finitude" earlier? Because that's what this video is really about and it is a frequent theme of Mylène's songs. - Nothing is immortal. - Everything has a beginning and an end. - What am I going to do about it? "Dis maman, pourquoi je suis pas un garçon?" (Say Mom, why am I not a boy?) Gender confusion is a recurring element that pops up in one form or another in other songs and videos.

It s really masterpiece, for you funny happy song but in fact this vidéo IS about love of man The clip tells the story of a puppeteer who thought he had a boy puppet and by meeting this nomad camp, the puppet takes life and he calls it that in fact his puppet is a woman and he falls in love with it then when Mylène farmer sings this song it is very happy because it is the song that the gay community is appropriate, A little girl who tells her mother tells mom why I’m not a boy.
