Unlike movies today, where a composer will sit and watch the final cut and compose pieces for the movie, Ennio Morricone was commissioned to write the score before principle photography had begun. So the director would often play the score while he was filming and this resulted in some of the very long takes in the film which have become its signature feature. Often Sergio Leone would film the actors from a distance. Then set the camera up and film them from close range and then finally close-ups of their faces. Then in the editing room he pieced together the scenes making them last for the entire movement of the score. It is EXACTLY the opposite of how movies are done today where the composer will cut the score to fit the scene. But the result is one of the most iconic Westerns to be made in large part because of how the score influenced the filming.

Don't get fooled by "a low budget western". The Good, The Bad and The Ugly is so, but so much better than any other western that's not even a competition. the Good, The Bad and The Ugly is one of the 10 best movies of all time. A masterpiece of the art of cinema. You can only compare it with other masterpieces of cinema. There aren't many. Amazing, amazing film.

The last Symphony I attended was the Florida Symphony, in Tampa, performing Pictures At An Exhibition originally composted in 1874 by Russian composer Modest Mussorgsky. It was awesome. 90 people on stage can indeed create a wall of sound.

The effigy hanging was for the theme of the movie. It was about two outlaws going around the southwest, one played bounty hunter and the other was wanted, so when the wanted one was being hung for crimes, the fake bounty hunter who already collected the bounty, would shoot the rope so the wanted guy could escape.

The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly was the third of the spaghetti western movies, all starring Clint Eastwood. These movies were a truly international project. They had an Italian director and composer, an American starring actor, were financed by Germans, and were filmed in Spain. I highly recommend all three movies to you. Ennio Morricone had such a low budget for this movie, he had to round up the musicians he could afford, see what instruments they played, and compose the soundtrack around those instruments, and he still managed to compose one of the greatest soundtracks ever for the movie.

A true classic movie. As for the orchestra, they often do music from movies and games. The night this was recorded, was western and mafia night. Clint Eastwood's silhouette is in the top background, and the waa waa woman had revolver earrings. Other musicians had cowboy hats on, although they don't show it, in this clip. The Danish National Symphony Orchestra always has a theme, and some of the musicians dress up for the location. Unheard of, in this industry, but it's one of the reasons they are so popular on KZbin.

The oboe solo during Ecstasy Over Gold is one of the most hauntingly beautiful segments of music I've ever heard. You really owe it to yourself to go back and listen to it again and again. I love many forms of music but nothing can compare to the epicness of a talented symphony orchestra.

Many people would say The Good, the Bad & the Ugly is the best Western ever made. I think it probably is, and it wouldn't be the same without this music. The composer is known for hundreds of film soundtracks, many from well known movies, but this one may be his best.

Love this. This orchestra plays theme songs from movies and video games. The hanging man is a prop from the movie they added because hanging happens in the first part of the movie. The Danish National Symphony Orchestra has performed the theme songs from The Godfather, Jaws, Star Trek, Once Upon a Time in the West, Once Upon a time in America plus more. They also have played the music from Halo, and World of War Craft. Have NEVER been disappointed in any of them and there are more that I haven't heard yet. The original film, a German/Italian paid for Production, recorded in - Spain with an Italian Instructor and Composer, in a huge set, and it was one of the finest "Westerns" ever made, with only three American Actors in it!

A staple of orchestral performances. The film director apparently had all of this music before filming those westerns. He could cut scenes TO this music. He already had the vibe & sound of the piece. How cool is that? To have this breathtakingly gorgeous music for your dirty, sweaty western. NOW it's an EPIC!!

The film, despite of a low budget genre, actually features and all-star cast (at the time) of Clint Eastwood - the Good, Lee Van Cleef - the Bad and Eli Wallach - the Ugly. It also has a number of Italian actors playing Mexican and Indian-American characters. Ennino Morricone has a prolific history of scoring films. If you've ever seen the Mob film dramatizing Eliott Ness taking on Al Capone "The Untouchables", that's Morricone's music.

The lady who sang "wah wah", her name is tuva semmingson, a classically trained singer in her own right, she sings everything from opera to standards to pop. A diva of the 1st class. If you look closely, for this concert she was wearing little six shooter earrings. PERFECT!!! Yes, there is also a hanging dummy ... if you watch the movie, you'll get the connection. I watched an interview with the two vocalists.Tuva Semmingsen AKA the Wa Wa Lady, as she has been called by the tube, actually likes being called the Wa Wa Lady. She couldn't believe how this performance took off on the tube. Christine Nonbo Andersen is the solo vocalist in the audience. This was her first performance with the Danish National Orchestra. Both ladies nailed their performances and added a stunning element to this Ennio Morricone masterpiece. Ennio Morricone was a composer of film soundtracks, where he used instruments and objects that are not normally used in an orchestral ensemble. Electric guitars, basses, ocarinas, bongos ... but also whips, gunshots, gusts of wind. Entering Morricone's work is a complete immersion. A moving tribute for fidelity down to the smallest details is what the Spaghetti Werstern Orchestra did to him. This is the theme song of the movie with the same title and of course, made Clint Eastwood ... Clint Eastwood.

If you had seen the movie you would know about the hanged man. This orchestra is amazing. This music makes me tear-up every time I hear it. Maybe because I saw it when I was seventeen in 1966 and loved the audacity of the movie. Everything Ennio Morricone makes is crazy good. Thanks for bring it up. To me there are four great film composers that stand out above all the rest: John Williams John Barry Bernard Hermann and Ennio Morricone. The amount of range and versatility that Morricone had in his film scores.. just unbelievable! I would say that only John Williams’ Star Wars scores could rival Ennio Morricone for gut-wrenching passion, heart and awesome bombast! Loved your reaction (as always)!
