I totally understand about the high cost of paper. My husband works for a newspaper and the subscription rates keep skyrocketing due to rapid rising costs of paper. Your publisher/printer should have given you a heads up about that right from the start.

Congratulations on your baby! The book is lovely, I’m so sorry that people were hateful. I’m sure you know this but maybe hearing a total stranger say it will help. The nice people, the people who liked the book, the people who understood what was happening and why, the people who did not blame you, those people, people like me, tend to be less vocal, less visible online. We’re not the ones who make a lot of noise. So you heard all the ugly and obviously did not hear enough of the gratitude. Dana, I have loved all of your watercolor books. Totally unique and delightful to work in. I haven't ordered the new one yet - but, I have it on my gift list and am hoping a family member decides it's the perfect gift for me. Of course, if they don't pick up on my hints, I will order it myself! Anyway, I am sorry you have people who complain like this. Your idea for producing the watercolor series is wonderful and a true testament to your talent. Just ignore them and concentrate on those of us who love what you've done!

I’m so sorry that ppl are so mean. I have 1 book so far ( ocean) and will buy more. Watercolor paper is very expensive and more ppl turned to art and crafts during covid shut down. I’m a beginner and this is so helpful. I do plan to buy this book as well! Thank you, Dana!

I didn't know about the book because I've been pretty focused on work, but I saw this video yesterday and as I've got the other two and love them, I ordered this one at once. It's really lovely and I can see how the pieces are a bit more challenging but I'm so inspired to tackle them as soon as possible. Maybe I'll try them on my own paper to practice a lil bit, just to be sure. I particularly love the pineapple. It saddens me that you got such an unkind response to this book. I understand some of the impressions from people, specially if they were not really aware of the changes, but that is not a reason to be hurtful and it does not reflect on your talent and creativity. I understand the situation was difficult on itself and you did the best you could, even making an effort to exploit the reduced page count to its max possibilities. So don't let this take you down, e sure that a lot of us enjoyed your work and will keep supporting you and valuing your work.

Congratulations on your baby girl! A daughter is such a blessing. When mine were babies, I thought the day good when I was able to get my teeth brushed. So you getting a video out is amazing! I loved your other books. They were so relaxing to work on, fun, and helpful in learning to mix colors. As a right-hander I was so happy that you switched the painting pages to the right side with instructions on the left in the Oceans book. I found it so much easier to use. I’m really looking forward to painting the projects in your new book. I’m sorry you got such negative feedback. It’s unfortunate in today’s climate, criticism supersedes grace. ugh, sorry about the negative reviews.... Honestly, the publisher should have listened to you, because ppl would have paid more to have all 50 projects. But, it does not reflect the quality of the projects that are in the new book. I don't mind the page count, its still a great book. I have the first two books, and i cant say enough how they have helped me with watercolor. I am new to watercolors, and its great to be able to open up a book and follow along with the great inductions on how to complete the artwork. I cant draw, so the sketches are very helpful! The pages that i have completed so far have come out good, and i cant always say that with other watercolor books out there... Just goes to show how well your books work, and the effort you put in making them. I hope you continue to make more in the future! Congrats on the baby gil!

I love your 3 books! The forest one is done last year while the ocean book is finished last month. Now I’m playing with jungle one. Although the jungle book consists of 25 illustrations, they are more challenging than the previous books. I like your artworks. They are beautiful!

Just here to say I love all your books. I'm still working on In the Ocean and it's so fun! I'm sorry you are receiving negative feedback on your newest book. People don't appreciate the value of this book. Besides all your hard work on the projects, the book is printed on nice watercolor paper (you could hardly buy the paper for the price of the book). So unique! I'm glad the new book is harder and don't mind a bit that there are fewer pages. It is still a great value in my opinion. I just bought IN THE OCEAN and I’m so in love with it. My first thought while going through it was, how could they make any money selling this book at this price. I haven’t even finished watching your video yet and had to stop and go to Amazon and order the other other to books to support you and of course to enjoy learning from them. Also I’m a junk journal maker and these books will make great ephemera for my journals. That is, if I have your permission to use the content in your book for my journals that I intend to sell. I'm sorry you had to deal with that aftermath. I had recently bought In the Forest and love it. I just ordered the other two.I love the easy to follow directions as a beginner who doesn't have a lot of artistic talent...I'm trying and learning and having fun with it. I understand all too well, that costs are going up on everything. There is nothing we can do about it, and honestly I probably wouldn't even have noticed there are less projects. Thanks for the new video! I have all your books, and got the Jungle one for Christmas (I bought it for myself for Christmas lol). I love all three, but “book” is not my preferred method of learning to paint. That’s probably why I ONLY have your books. Seeing you paint the hibiscus lit the bulb in my head and makes following the written directions easier for me :). I'm so sorry you had to go through this. As a writer I totally understand how a publisher can sabotage your reputation with changes in their policies and publication guidelines. I love your books and 25 as opposed to 50 doesn't make it a less valuable book. I love your brushes! As for motherhood. We do have to give up some of what we enjoy but that is replaced with the wonder and joy, as well as challenges, of raising children. Enjoy your years with the little one. They go by fast. thanks so much! I think the paper cost is a combination of the printing, binding, and bookmaking process. They have to import it specially.

I think this year I am taking a break from book making while I focus on my baby and a few other things (I am going to be releasing some new products this year to go along with my watercolour brush line). That he basically had to cut his next book in half. Needlessly to say people weren’t happy. But it wasn’t your fault and people need to get over themselves. Sorry to hear about all the bad reviews that came out at the beginning for your new book here! I have an idea that is related and was wondering if you have ever thought to create another version of the books you have already put out that is not printed on watercolor paper and would just be the pictures and the instructions. This would mean we would need to trace or sketch out our own outlines and paint on our own paper. I think that would a be a book that appealed more to my fear of messing up in the book and would hopefully lower costs as well. Just an idea to maybe consider. And I hope to get and try out one of your books in the future!

I just got your book & tried to follow this video & my paper warped. It seems when I wet the paper it dries to quickly to bleed & blend & when add my colors they seem to be too watery. I am struggling so much 😭 Mine looks nothing like this.

I’m a mom so I 100% get it. I’m sure you could tell. My son took over my KZbin so he changed my picture and name. 😂 Your art is beautiful so it should reflect in the price. People don’t realize what is going on in the background when publishing a book. Things happen. Unfortunately, when things happen, America pulls out their conspiracy theorist hat and thinks the worst. Hello! maybe I'm super late for the party, but how about releasing the unpublished projects digitally on your website so people can print their own sketches and complete the "missing pages", or maybe instead of people paining in the book itself, maybe use normal paper and include graphite paper so people can trace the sketches on their own paper. I feel really bad since from the video I can tell you put a lot of effort into it and that people on the internet is so mean :(, anyways! good luck and you did a great job! don't listen to the haters!
