It sounds more like a matter of uneven warp tension to me; the selvedge threads sound like they are far tighter than the interior threads. A shot of weft should lie dead level across your fell; that's the diagnostic when you are tying on in the front for even warp tension. Hope this helps!

Please help! I have an Ashford 8 shaft table loom. My problem is as I advance through the warp one side starts to loosen. The first couple of times I wove something I thought I must have not gotten my tension even at the start. But after a half dozen projects it is still happening. I've been wedging folded paper between the back beam and the warp to keep my tension even. But I would truly appreciate any suggestions you can give to correct the problem. I've used cardboard slats to separate the warp as I have wound it on. I have used paper as a separator. It always comes loose on the left side. Don't feel you need to rush an answer my busy season just started and 12 hr. days don't leave much weaving time. But if you could make some suggestions when you have time I would be grateful. I am so happy I found your channel. Thanks for the tea towel hemming tips.

I didn't do the cross right when I was warping. It didn't come out over/under when I was threading! Will that be a problem when I'm weaving?

What causes a diagonal fell line on a rigid heddle loom?

There are a few different things that could be causing it! Uneven beating, uneven tension while warping, or inappropriate warp separator are all things that could be going wrong. If you email us a picture to [e-mail] we can tell you exactly what is wrong!

I figured it out. When I was tying the warp ends on the cloth beam, I was going left to right instead of from the middle to the edges. Thanks for offering to help.

so if my weft is frowning ( does that mean I'm worrying too much about not getting a tight selvedge and I should snug it up a bit more instead?
