Utterly riveting interview. Only one complaint: it was way, way, way, way too short.

Napier-Bell told Peter Grant who took on the Yardbirds, get rid of Jimmy Page he's trouble, Peter Grant who knew Jimmy asked him what was going on, turns out Jimmy Page was the only member of the band who had the balls to confront Napier-Bell about the management ripping them off.

I was at the Japan/BOC tour in Bristol. I loved Japan but the Audience hated them.

Thats one of my favourite albums covers. The T-Rex one with Marc playing the Les Paul and the Marshall stack behind him. So simplistic , yet so cool

It's a Vampower stack. Great cover though!

Oddly BOC and Japan are two of my favourite bands. Even then. But BOC are not a particularly heavy band. I’ve seen them a dozen times. They do everything. Japan started life as a heavy glam-like, New York Dolls rock band

Simon’s account of Paul Samwell Smith leaving the Yardbirds differs greatly from what the Band say, apart from that it was good.

You mean the story of Keith falling over at the Oxford ball?

Don't forget he also managed Japan.

One of the best anecdotes in this interview is how he coached Japan through the harrowing experience of opening for Blue Oyster Cult. It starts after 19 minutes in.

Didn't Bolan proclaim to Tony Visconti that with a little practice he could be as good as John Williams. I don't know if the producer was aghast at his arrogance or bemused by his delusion!!
