Enjoyed those references to American currency in lyrics. Tom Waits had a few. Steely Dan had some good ones too. The beautiful Here at the Western World has a verse which goes: Ruthie will give you the silver key, To open the red door; Lay down your Jackson and you will see, The sweetness you've been cryin' for. Thanks for all the great shows in 2024 guys.

On the subject of an pound note being worth something back in the day... I was in a Hampton Court sweetshop as a 8 year old in the mid-70s with a five pence piece to spend and recognised the bloke talking to the shopkeeper as early childhood TV hero Michael Bentine. He was so chuffed to have his Potty Time enthusiastically praised by a young fan he extracted a crisp, green pound note from his wallet and instructed me to help myself. I filled two paper bags with sugary treats and Michael still got some change. Could've bought two bagged Airfix kits for a quid back then.

The reason we have enough Christmas hits is because, all the good ones have already been written, now any Christmas song is just written for the money, and the gullible will buy it whether it is good or bad, just because it mentions Christmas.

"Pop" Songwriting became Self Obsession and Self Indulgence in the 1960's and we have John Lennon to Blame for that Boredom.

The Band’s ”Christmas Must Be Tonight” is one of the world’s most forgotten Christmas songs. So beautifully written! kzbin.info/www/bejne/j2bFfKeIipWEbMUsi=P9ceX9NRuxv762di

How on earth can you talk about Powerpop and never mention The Raspberries? Not mentioning The Raspberries makes this discussion totally null and void!!!!

There is no more christmas songs, or any others songs, they've all been done, all we now have are variations of something that was done better.... pop is basically dead..... bland retreads are now the charts

There is no point in Christmas records now. Am sick to death hearing tracks from Phil Spector's Christmas LP. It's overrated anyway.
