Amen. "Ponder the fact that our Lord also loves you with perfect charity, intimacy, and totality." It could be noted that John is one of the Apostles about which we read, that did not have any doubt as to who Jesus was. Peter denied Him, Thomas doubted Him, Judas betrayed Him, ect, so the assumption of John's closeness to Jesus could very well be assumed. Nonetheless, Jesus did include John to be a part of many of the events of His ministry. John's love for Jesus is a great example of spiritual faith that connected John to Him. John, as should we, recognized who Jesus was, the Christ. It did not take Him long to recognize this, and it can clearly be seen in his writings concerning Christ and the message of His ministry. It is this kind of recognition that we need to seek in our own faith if we are going to be really, spiritually connected to our faith. John had that intimacy with Jesus that allows him to write, John 15:13, "Greater love hath no man than this, than a man lay down his life for his friends. Essentially, John is expressing his feelings concerning the crucifixion of his friend Jesus. His relationship with Jesus was intense in faith and those words summed up that relationship. The fact that Jesus entrusted His mother to John and John to His mother only amplifies that friendship! While, indeed, our connection to Jesus is only spiritual, it is the through that connection we must learn to develop and trust the meaning of our faith and as John did, commit our faith to it. Yesterday, we celebrated the birth of Christ. In the near future we will find the ultimate meaning and purpose of His life. We may view the years between His birth and death in part as vague since little is written concerning it, but we can be assured that with Jesus, it was allowing Himself to "become" human in nature, and see, hear, and feel humanity. Jesus' life was about "blending in" in order to give His message authenticity to the people. He did not allow His divinity to overshadow His purpose. John became an instrument if you will, by which we can recognize the love He felt for the children of God. That is why John's gospel account is more intimate in it's description of the life of Jesus. We equally, can have that same relationship with Christ if we only allow ourselves to really desire it. That means committing our lives to serving the will of God in obedience in a humble way, exactly as our Lord did in His earthly journey to our salvation.🙏💖🕊🕊🕊
