***** I disagree. Look at the mister Olympia. Besides one all the winners are still alive. IMO the win that contest you have to take lots of steroids and many other bad things so the risk can't be so big. There's a documentary called Sigmarsson Lager than Life on youtube. In there is said that he had something like a congenital heart condition and that was cause of his death. It maybe that certain products or the sport on it's own has speeded his denying up. But he probably had it coming anyway.
@Aristotelezz10 жыл бұрын
***** There are lots of opinion about performance enhancing drugs, from positive to negative. To me it's a personal choice to take them or not. I see it like this. If you're a cyclist every time you step on that bike you take a risk. Cyclists sometimes end up death or in a wheelchair. So whatever you do there's always a risk. The better you want to be the more you got to do the more risk involved.
@Aristotelezz10 жыл бұрын
***** Some 25 years ago I doped and I learned it is the norm in sports like powerlifting or body-building. In these sports it isn't cheating. Neither it is in cycling. Lance Armstrong did what they all did. That he was better than others is because of a difference in talent. And also he worked extremely hard. To me it's a pity that in the end he got caught and lost his Tour de France victories. In a poll nearly all other winners said that Armstrong should've kept his victories. That may say something about themselves since, if they were always clean, they wouldn't defend a doper.

These great competitors cut down in their prime, O.D Wilson, Jon Pall Sigmarsson, Jesse Marunde, Mike Jenkins, (there are likely others I have missed here) may they rest in peace and be remembered as true giants among men...

+Jones James I have a pretty good idea, still sad though...

+Sumani Robertson i know what you are hinting at but there are underlying genetic factors here too.
@emp100k8 жыл бұрын
+03056932R True, I'ts highly likely that each of these men used a significant amount of steroids, however it is only speculation to assume that it is responsible for their deaths as opposed to genetic and other factors. It's somewhat unclear at this point what long term steroid use does to the cardiovascular system, but regardless of how they died they were all passionate young athletes that died too young... Add Rick "Grizzly" Brown to that list who died in 2002 at age 41 of heart related reasons. I think he and O.D may have been more weight related rather than simply genetic defect or steroids, both of them were pushing 400 lbs...

+emp100k Androgens wreak havoc on your lipid profile as well as raising blood pressure. Not a good combination to avoid heart disease.

emp100k don't sugar coat it... These deaths are all steroids use related.

Conveniently ignores the fact that these guys were swimming on anabolic steroids. That's the main reason so many of them have heart, liver, and kidney problems.

Everyone is "swimming on anabolic steroids" when it comes to top level strength competitions.

It just shows that many of these Strong men or Body Builders are just 'fake' strong men. Strong on the surface, problematic inside their body.

naesmy 4891 agreed...when it comes to drugs in sport WSM r the worst offenders...IFBB pro bodybuilders r as bad but WSM doesnt even bother with a drug test

Kal El Try it and see how strong you get (spoiler not very). All elite athletes use them. It is a must at that level. I was young and nieve once, reality is they are not magic pills and those elite athletes work harder than you will in 100 lifetimes. It is inhuman the amount of work they do because to be the best there is no substitute for hard work. Steroids aid recovery so they can wok harder. Many injuries are due to chronic overuse which 99% will never train hard enough for that to happen.

Unusual deaths, usually have a ...hidden cause. For these kind of athletes(strongmen, powerlifters, bodybuilders, etc), that usual cause, is the abusive use of steroids. At younger ages you feel invicible(all organs in your body new and strong), but as you grow older, the years of abusive use, come asking for a toll.

Just like anything else you go too far it'll kill you.a little bit is a good thing a little more maybe better too much kills you quick. I'd rather die at 55 and have a good life and be strong and in shape then rot away like my father did it 71 350 lb in can't move what's the point of living when your body is a tomb
