While the mustang has the reaction time of a snail, the other guy just guessed the light, which is honestly pretty impressive, if you slow down the clip you can see him let off the break prior to the green light just barely, the mustang has an even worse reaction time even without the guessing of the opponent.

@TITANa.k.a.RADIATION1733 жыл бұрын
@Ugli PurrltatoTM The difference of old muscle cars to new sport cars, is the acceleration. Muscle cars has veeeery agressive acceleration, but newer sport cars have more top speed power, stability and grip, which make newer sport cars better in races with corners. But in drags they could beat muscle cars if the track is long too. Well: Muscle cars: Very high acceleration, medium top speed, very low grip and stability. Sport Cars: Low acceleration, very high top speed, and high stability and grip. The most important in normal races (With corners) is the grip and stability. The grip and stability makes sure of your car will stay on the track and you will drive it well. You can see, muscle cars can slide sometimes, and they are hard to control, what makes drives lose much more speed
@TITANa.k.a.RADIATION1733 жыл бұрын
@Ugli PurrltatoTM Uhh, not like this. But old cars are better for short drag races, and new cars are better for long/short track races. About the new cars on drag races, they are a little bad on acceleration, this can make em lose position on the race

@AgeofJP Жыл бұрын
none of these are stock though so the only "old school" thing about them is the outside...even with the same engine, transmission, wheels etc. the newer models should be faster just from aerodynamics alone. But with the stock variants the new models would absolutely wreck the old ones. Especially the green ones had a huge difference that was clearly visible, the grip you speak of doesn't come from the weight but from these *massive* rear drag wheels that the old one had. Bigger and wider than the modern Mustang had, which is kind of an unfair advantage in a drag race especially...(I doubt this was a regulated drag event and more for show, so it doesn't really matter for the viewers...but it does matter when objectively comparing two cars) Just to clarify, I highly prefere the old models in terms of style and feeling, but let's not act like they're something they're not...like they could magically stand up to their modern equivalents in anything BUT style. The manufacturers aren't working backwards
@kingcrimson2346 ай бұрын
Nah, it's just gear ratios. All of these are modded to hell anyway, virtually none of the original car remains besides the chassis. Old cars right out of the factory were SLOW compared to modern standards of fast cars, and I mean absolutely painfully slow. Your standard V6 Camry or Accord today would beat almost any "fast" muscle car from back in the day, or at the very least give them a hard time... and those are just the family grocery getters. They would also get like 3 or 4 times the fuel economy while they do it. Put a modern V8 Mustang or Challenger against a 60's Charger or whatever and it would be laughable stock vs stock. And I'm just talking the basic models. Something like the modern GT500, Hellcat or Z06 would have been absolutely unimaginable back in the 60's.

The 1969 dodge challenger had around 425 hp stock, today, I can get a 2020 dodge Challenger with 305. sure, the upper limit for power for these vehicles has increased, but so has the minimum, and the cars from the 60's-70's were built for racing from the factory. I don't see anyone racing today's challengers stock *because they suck as race cars stock* unless you put in WAAY too much money to justify not just buying one from the 70's.

New cars usually got their engine designs restricted by emission regulations, their advantages are smoother shifting, more reasonable gear ratio, better aero and other stuff, that's why they can gradually catch up or keep up, but got way less of a kick at the start. It also has something to do with the exaggerating dragster tyres in some of the clips, but mostly the tyres are the same.
