I restored my dad’s 68 GT500 about 18 years ago and had around 100 hours just in getting all the fiberglass to fit perfectly. This video sure brings back some memories.

Shelby was a true racer and American. Jason is an artist. I'll be honest.......Shelby never paid anywhere near this amount of attention to the body of his cars......but he sure knew how to compete.

Nice tip on spraying feather-fill. One tube of MEKP in a quart kicks off quicker than you have time to spray, one third tube of MEKP allows time to shoot it, I use a $9.00 harbor freight spray gun and drill the fluid nozzle out for spraying the featherfill without acetone reduction.

The Shelby is coming along nicely. It’s something how those cars were slapped together with poor fit and finish. Nobody seemed to care. I Ike that he is taking the time to make the body pieces fit better than Shelby did. It’s going to be a fantastic car when done.

The problem that folks have is most channels restoring cars do it fast just to get material out for clicks. This is a very low production car that potentially is worth a lot in the end. Having it done as close to concourse as possible is going to take much longer. The fibroglass parts increase the man hours tremendously especially to get a good fit and finish. Jerry, what engine are you planning on using? I know editing has to be frustrating and tedious.

I appreciate your patience and understanding. Yes, I shoot hours and hours of video per segment and then editing is a bear, typically 100-150 hours. This restoration series is a 2-man operation. Every car restoration series I have found on KZbin is one person shooting point of view video. I hate it when they speed up the video. I want to see the details. I have been a full time auto writer, not part time for decades. You can read thousands of my articles online.This series is for serious restorer types. So, Jason found and built a date-coded correct 428 Police Interceptor. This is a concours restoration, meaning a factory stock build, with some upgrades, such as better fitting body panels and modern paint. I embarked on this series because this is my car. I want to finish the series, but I cannot guarantee that, although the car is done and I have the unedited video. Positive comments, such as yours, are an incentive. My KZbin advisor recommends I make this series "subscription only."

@thewriter2549 here's a suggestion, why not break it into 10 min episodes every week or every other week. Truthful, lol it does kill me not seeing any updates because this is such a fascinating project #1 its your dream car, #2 where it came from, #3 its so rare and rust free, #4 the restoration process is so fascinating. Please consider putting out shorts and shorter segments. I truly think it would help the success of your viewers. Thank you so much for responding and I couldn't be happier for you.

This car didn't come with a hood. The one in this video was an original for us to show problems using an original hood with damage, versus a reproduction that is done with original type hand-laid fiberglass.

It's not a boat using same materials that was orginally used that way not odd shrinkage or lines pop up later from different materials

That is not the original trunk lid the original is two pieces with a finished built in cross brace the ends are inset a half inch not flat

I don't think Shelby-American set out to have imperfect body lines. Do you? What if some of them had perfect lines and some didn't because their work was hit and miss? We chose to "err" on the side of perfect.

Because we don't think "perfect" body lines look phony. We do think body lines that are clearly not "perfect" do look like mistakes by the restorer. Many cars from the 1960s have great looking body lines. In the Shelby, we are referring to the fiberglass, like the lines on the fastback extending into the decklid.
