The Great Gatsby is now 10 years old by this point and yet it feels as timeless as the book, which is also past a century now. Also crazy, still watching a movie made in 2013 in 2023 about a 1925 book which setting took place in 1922. Ik it doesn’t correlate much but the fact were in the 2020s now and that the roaring 20s took place more than 100 years ago now it’s incredibly surreal. With that being said this movie is one of the greatest tragic movies ive seen. The soundtrack, the environment and the acting was just so well done. It’s a masterpiece of it’s own. Screw what the critics said, I enjoyed this movie.

This is my favourite song by the xx. Honestly, I just love it. It makes me quite reminiscent. The whole Gatsby album is perfection in my eyes; I love all of the literary references, and it's all so modern yet still captures the image of the 1920s 'jazz' era. A lot of people complain about the album because they think it's too upbeat, but this music is the equivalent to what jazz was in the 1920s. It helps us relate to how new and exciting the music was back then. I'm so glad Baz Luhrmann decided to go with this style of album for the film. I just wish that it got more positive attention and wasn't so underrated. I'd even go to say that I prefer the film to the book.

The movie was essentially a love story, it's why it was shot, it was why it was overly dramatised as such and why songs, such as this one, were composed to go with it. And as a word of advice, literary criticism is derived and must be developed both by looking at the technicalities and motifs the writer is using, as well as the variety of emotions his/her work create in the audience. If anything, not all artists pride themselves in using solely one technique to get their message across and for it to echo through the decades. For that to happen, the audience's emotions count, quite heavily. Your initial argument is therefore, invalid.

Not to mention that I feel the film was a great representation of Fitzgerald's novel, yes there were adaptations and the rap music wasn't very 20's like but it was such a nice touch, after all the novel was Fitzgerald's critique of his contemporary times, so I feel like Luhrmann's decision to include that modern music made it a critique to our time. It should definitely be on TV more often! It's just simply iconic.

everytime i hear this i imagine this : a guy in prison walking back and forth thinking and laying down on bed getting up thinking (the beginning of the song) then he gets a tool to cut up the bars of the window and jumps out of it, the prison is too high so he'd be falling for a long time, then when the girl starts singing suddenly he's falling in space and his memories is flashing in front of his eyes in like old movie filter, then when they start sayin together to be, he's floating in space, just floating, until the point in the song where the violin gets high he's sucked into a black hole and then a big explosion in space happens (all the violin part is this) and then when it calms down he starts falling back to earth into the ocean, and the ocean is layered with glass inside, like water then glass then water, and the beat of the song represent him breaking the glass with his hands to dive in deeper, and it's finished on that scene.. i don't know what to do with this imagination.

El Gran Gatsby es una de esas pocas películas románticas que puedo ver tranquilamente sin que me induzca al letargo; literal, tiene: Dirección, edición, banda sonora, actuación, escenografía, etc; sin desmérito a a la novela que, total, es un clásico estadounidense. La recomiendo al cien por cien 👌

When I hear this song, I think of 2 lovers. They want to be together but it feels like the world doesn't want them together. incredible that a whole new generation of people learned about the great gatsby after the di caprio movie..i read the book as a kid in the 70s and people who were older told us the same thing...fitzgerald wrote the book in the 1920s and it represented "the lost generation " that was almost destroyed by world war 1 and still today the story resonates with people

Should've gone for Catherine. She actually knew him, and though unsophisticated, she was unambiguous about her interest in him, and she could handle what little money she was able to make. She was able to protect Myrtle's memory when she needed to. As for "the dude", there just isn't enough in the book to give us much to go on when it comes to a relationship. But yeah--he was infinitely nicer than Daisy.
