It's rare for me to give EA credit, ESPECIALLY for traits in The Sims 4, but I'm quite impressed that the "Hates Children" trait actually makes them not want to procreate. The "Dislikes Children" trait in The Sims 3 for some reason did not prevent female sims from being happy about pregnancy, and new parents would still have positive moodlets. I know it might be a somewhat spicy subject but come on, if you went so far as to include a trait that makes a sim dislike children, it only makes sense for them to react negatively to having them!

hard to discuss the good stuff when they barely discussed it themselves. everything mentioned about the trait update was very vague and barely touched on in the livestream and notes. can’t blame people for assuming it was just another hollow update when they have a track record of such. also without them stating clearly what was improved on and how, most people won’t notice or put two and two together anyway unless they see a video like this.

I feel like Carl is the only one who did the groundwork and tested the traits, as with other reviewers just wanted to be the first one to report about the changes but clearly didn’t do their homework because according to a couple of Sims reviewers, they claimed the trait system was still broken and this is why to me, Carl’s reviews are the only ones that matter. Just had an idea on fixing the emotions system: instead of it being based on moodlet weight, have it based on a priority system (i.e a death moodlet is considered higher priority versus the well-decorated). Each moodlet would be rated on priority based on other similar moodlets (comfortable furniture and well-decorated would be of similar priority level). The moodlet of the highest priority would become the main mood of the sim and all moodlets of the same emotion would be bumped up to the same level to boost the emotion (kinda like having a crappy day snowballs into an awful day). This way, emotions are much more stable and you don't end up with happy sims from a well-decorated environment despite having just lost a family member. I sincerely doubt EA would do this since they requires a MASSIVE overhaul (and they know all custom traits would pretty much be broken, exposing the bareness of their own traits even after the update) but I think it would be a decent way to handle emotions. Haven't heard many other ideas anyways
@organicstorm3 жыл бұрын
More stable isn't necessarily more realistic or more interesting or enjoyable .. I think they just need to start improving the system *somewhere* at all. E.g., I think it would be unrealistic and annoying to play if sad moodlets overpowered everything else for its whole duration, esp since the sad buffs from beloved spouse, own child, close friends and mere acquaintances dying is *literally* the same length .. well, it was last time I played vanilla. I saw some Sims weren't affected by acquaintances dying at all last time I played and I don't remember installing a mod that does that, so *maybe* they fixed that too. .. I don't like testing for death moodlets though, so I won't investigate this immediately 🤷
@meechtree57953 жыл бұрын
@@organicstorm agreed, I don’t feel like being sad all the time after a death is necessarily more realistic or better because, for example, doing something that’s more engaging, you would be able to take you mind off the death for some time. this can happen as moodlets, if strong enough, would change mood for their duration and most weren’t as strong as the death moodlet. What I think could be more interesting is utilizing the new sentiment system to base how much a death would impact someone, say that the moodlet have now but every positive sentiment we had with that person would increase the severity and or duration of the death moodlet, and maybe the opposite to an extent for negative moodlets. This way people you were close to and adored would really be difficult to get past their loss which I feel could be more realistic.
@organicstorm3 жыл бұрын
@Plumbobby um, not sure what this question is supposed to be about, as I said I didn't have mods that specifically influence moodlets at all .. I do use the "UI cheats extensions" mod to combat silly (my opinion) moodlets that come from broken game mechanics such as random sentiments .. 😅

@asideofaioli46303 жыл бұрын
@@mrsb50 I don't think that's completely accurate or fair. I understand if you used that phrase if ea was a company that was truly trying to make things right with s4 (yet still getting hate). That's not the case here. They continue to release sub par content knowing full well what the issues are and how many players feel. They know this & still give measly food scraps. So every once in awhile when they decide to "actually" deliver, it's not fair to expect everyone to clap over it. What if your grocery store constantly sold expired & stale food. They have the choice to sell appropriate food, but simply don't bc they know customers have nowhere else to go for their food so they continue to sell crap (same as s4). But every blue moon they decide to do the right thing with a weekend sale of non-moldy & non-stale food. Customers should 'give them props' for that? It would be diff if for some reason the store couldn't, or maybe always TRIED selling good food but for reasons failed. That would garner more empathy. But no, ea is like the grocery that CAN sell good food but just refuses to. That's why they don't get an applause when they finally deliver on the product they promised. Bc they are shysters. It's good to admit when content is good, but I understand why many players don't go out of their way to give a standing ovation on the rare occasion that ea does a "good thing" Bc ea clearly doesn't care about the players, so why is there an expectation for players to show appreciation for a product that is often a dud? A dud product ea is happy to profit off...

I feel like many of the problems regarding the old traits revolve around one thing: the excessive use of emotion. Most traits revolve around giving you a certain emotion when certain thing happens, and while that's ok, it makes up for lackluster personality. Because it basically makes all traits glorified moodlets, giving them almost no substance. There's no difference between someone who's hot headed and a person that just happens to be angry, they are the same emotion, same animations, same interactions, nothing different. Most traits don't give anything that's EXCLUSIVE to a certain person
