I've just binged a bunch of Darcy Coates haunted house books after never reading her before and while a few were very forgettable or not great, they were exactly what I needed during a stressful couple of months. Craven Manor and The Carrow Haunt were probably my faves of the lot. Just started From Below and it's riveting so far.

Ahhaa (only started the vid), year Coates is my fave horror author but more in the lane of I like how atmospheric her writing is, and in general her characters don't make me want to kill them myself. But... I don't have any delusions that she's the greatest horror author there is. Her stuff just works the best for me.

The only Darcy Coates book I have read so far is Craven Manor and I agree, the main character Daniel is such a kind and empathetic character. I really enjoyed the book. I flew through it in a couple of days. Very much a cozy horror.

The Black Winter Series (Voices in the Snow is book 1) becomes a post apocalyptic adventure story that is pretty heavy on romance so it does turn into a different vibe than the first book. You probably won’t love where it goes because of that. (Thornfield 😂😂)

I think that you should read the hunting of Ashburn house by Darcy Coates. It’s really good that’s the first one I read and the lack of profanity kind of rubbed me the wrong way the first time because it felt an immature but I got over it and it is a good book.

I liked Craven Manor. It was not the best thing I’ve read, but it had some good spoopy moments. I have plans to read Dead of Winter in January when I am in the post holiday blahs. I took The Haunting of Blackwood House and The Carrow Haunt out from the library for Halloween but have not gotten to them yet. Both seem to be haunted house situations. As an aside: I love crescent rolls, but it always scares the crap out of me when the tube pops open.
