@@lorraineburnett2973 Yes that's exactly right. DIYers are always going to DIY, and a color correction (or even just fixing a terrible haircut at times) can be an absolute nightmare, and the client is almost never happy with the result, except for being okay with their hair at least being presentable and not something to be embarrassed about I would much rather fix "minor" errors than egregious ones

YES! I used to be a vet surgeon and people accused us of overcharging all the time, but running a vet clinic costs even more than running a hair salon (which is not cheap either). I cannot afford to have a salon colour my hair so I do it myself (still get it cut professionally tho!). Thnks to HB I use Blondme and sectioning, and (mostly) it turns out ok!

As far as fellow hairdressers getting mad at you for giving advice, the way I feel about that is that no matter how much advice you give, they’ll never be able to do what you do. They’re just managing with what they can do and you can usually tell the people who cut their own hair. I’m one of them! 🙋🏻‍♀️🤣 but it’s kind of like trying to follow along with a Bob Ross painting video. It’s all fun and games until you realize you can’t frikin do this and what you just painted looks RIDICULOUS! lol

You chose your parents before you incarnated. If we choose parents who aren't as loving or don't have as much time for us, it's because we believed that's exactly what we needed to start our life story perfectly. My mother wasn't loving either, she also had little time for us children, my father was always working. Today I understand that I chose these parents in order to quickly start into this world independently and hardened and I am mentally the strongest person I know, but also the happiest and most loving. Our parents are not responsible for what we make of ourselves. 🙂

@@LichtAnker. So are you saying children with abusive, violent parents, chose that? What the actual hell, what are you on? I agree that we are responsible for what we make of ourselves, that we can't let a bad childhood ruin our lives, but the first half of your comment is bonkers, I'm sorry.

@@LichtAnker.With the greatest of respect, this is complete and utter rubbish and what's more, it's potentially very harmful rubbish. It's a, 'cosmic,' version of victim blaming. Your own experience does not translate to everyone else's. As someone who has worked in mental health and in teaching children with emotional and behavioural difficulties, I am appalled at what you are trying to, 'sell.' Do you have any idea of the pain and damage you could cause others? Haven't you ever heard of Complex Post Traumatic Stress? I guess you would say people, 'chose,' abusive parents. Complete tosh. By all means have these deeply wrong ideas, but don't push them on to others, especially those who have had difficult childhoods. You should be ashamed of yourself.

@@user-is7xs1mr9y Yes, I say that even though as a child I was beaten by my mother with everything she could get her hands on during her regular narcissistic tantrums. My brothers too. Nevertheless, we still love our mother today and she too has now become peaceful. At some point she also apologized to me. I am not saying that every person must be united in love because of family circumstances, even if they have experienced abuse in that family. I'm just saying that you can also heal from it, learn from it, build strength from it and most importantly learn unconditional love. That's why we incarnate in the first place. From a higher dimensional view of the soul, every painful experience holds a lot of learning potential and yes, I can tell you from experience, one can also learn unconditional love from suffering and be grateful in retrospect for every painful situation that was the teacher to us. What sounds better? To be forever broken, distrustful, full of hate and fear because of something you experienced as a child many years ago. Or to be able to say that you have forgiven and let the love grow over it and therefore feel strong and be able to show other people how to heal their own trauma? I prefer to live the latter and because I was incarnated to serve as a teacher of unconditional love for people, I chose my mother before my incarnation, even though I knew she was not suitable to be a “good mother.” Before incarnation, each soul selects the appropriate parents and discusses with them what the time together should look like. And if souls have reason to experience abuse from their parents in childhood, then they want to experience it and learn from it. We are not our body, we are eternal life. Each incarnation is something like a film or a computer game for the soul. Every suffering is just a short excursion into this cinema and every tortured soul receives much healing and love when it ends this life story and leaves the body again. Every soul knows this before incarnation and we are much braver at the soul level than we are as humans in duality. I speak to you from pure experience and would never say anything that I haven't experienced myself. I remember a lot because this is my life's work. In addition, for many years I have had very intensive contacts with higher dimensional beings, with the deceased, with beings who have never incarnated, with extraterrestrials, with angels. They are with me now as I write this to you and they have remembered me about many things and how life really works. You too will remember yourself. Every person does it as they mature. The only thing required is your free will. Free will is a heartfelt desire. So open your heart to the truth and you will find peace. 🙂 💕☀️

I love how that mom lets her girl decide which hairstyle she wants. I once was talking to a woman who had a 9 year old daughter with hair down to her butt. That girl hated her long hair and had even started hacking the front with crafting scissors herself. Her mom said "she wants her hair cut to a bob because a lot of girls in her school now have that hair cut, but she's a girl, she is supposed to have long her.", I got really mad in that moment. If the girl doesn't feel comfortable and is clearly annoyed by that much hair on her head, why not allow her to have it shorter? I never understood that. My mom always let me decide my hairstyle and length and I am glad she did. When I didn't like the hairstyle on myself, I learned from it. That's how I figured out what I actually liked and what I feel most comfortable with. Let your kids decide more. Many of these choices are not even important. And hair style changes at such a young age really are nothing permanent. Kids wanna explore, they are curious and they should have that freedom. Being a kid should be carefree and fun, not "No, you can't decide anything for yourself until you're grown up.", coz we all know how restricted life can be when we start working and having to be an adult. If a kid isn't allowed to figure out what they like and who they wanna be, how are they supposed to make good choices for themselves when they are older? Think about that!

Very well said Julia. I was surprised that no one noticed this mother was so in tune that she even asked her little girl if she wanted her hair cut like a boy because she felt like a boy or just because she wanted it short. She was so open-minded loving and accepting she was checking in to see if her daughter was expressing some gender confusion. They are very fortunate little girls for that matter they're all very blessed to have each other.

I'm a woman and I've been to the hairdresser twice in my life. I have been cutting and coloring my hair myself since I was a child, including pixie, mohawk, mullet, etc and bright colors. I also cut my entire family's hair. I don't have a lot of money, I don't like it when people fiddle with me and most of all I hate small talk. So I have plenty of reasons not to go to the hairdresser, but my biggest reason is: Why should I let someone else do what I can do myself?! 🙂 Every person is different and I'm sure there are people who love running to the hairdresser every week, but also many who prefer to do it independently. 🙂 Tip: The more often you do it yourself, the better you get at it. 🙂

I'm the same! Don't like the senseless chit chat and I hate seeing myself in a mirror. I cut and color my own and have since I was 18 (I'm 58). The only time I go to a salon is if I want a drastic change then, I'll upkeep it on my own. Stylists (most) deserve what they charge, and I commend them for their creativity and abilities but, living on a budget makes it near impossible. I always chuckle tho when people ask me for my stylists name... 😏

Other hair dressers complaining to you about you giving us tips is really petty and I'm sure that they're jealous of you and your success because you giving tips to us doesn't take business away from a good hairdresser!! If they're really good their customers will stay with them!! It's the mediocre and bad hair dressers that have to worry a little because if their clients aren't happy with them they could try to do their hair themselves or go elsewhere which has no bearing on your tips!! But that said, your tips don't guarantee that someone will get a good result because hairdressing is also a talent and not just a learned skill!! A person may think they know how to do something but it all comes down to their execution of the task!! If they don't do it correctly it really doesn't matter how many tips you give them because it's simply not going to end up with a desired result...meaning a good one!!! Also if a person isn't coordinated that too will have a bearing on the end result. Some people are just NOT meant to do their hair nor anyone else's hair!! So please for your sanity just ignore these jealous people!! I love watching your videos and even though I'm not a hairdresser I do my own hair ( because of a disastrous expensive incident @ the hairdresser's so I decided to do my hair myself because it couldn't be worse but at least I'd not have to pay for the failure. It wasn't a failure but a roaring success!) with excellent results but you've taught me a thing or two which I'm grateful for, so thank you Hair Buddha!!🥰❤️❤️

1.Somebody who doesn't have the money to go to the salon every few weeks, is still not going to have salon money if there's no helpful videos! 2. Even with all the helpful videos, there are and will always be people who will F it up so bad, they're forced to go to the salon - Yeah, for hairdressers, not so much for the person who just had to choose between hair and electric or food! 3. Whether there's helpful videos or not people, for whatever reason, will continue to think they can do it themselves! 🤗

One day, I found a long golden curl on the floor and then another on the way to the bathroom. My daughter decided she wanted a pixie cut like Mommy. She whacked it off pretty good. I took her to a salon, and she had to get a pixie cut. I saved the hair in her babybook, dated and marked 1st Haircut Self Inflicted.

Hairdressers are worth the money if someone can afford it. Otherwise, maybe it’s an option to be a practice model for student hairdressers. I’ve done it before and it’s way cheaper. The students also have a supervisor to make sure nothing terrible happens. They’d probably appreciate the volunteers too - I got the impression that people were too nervous about students to trust them. I had waist length hair and said yes when a hairdressing student approached me to practice hair washing and cutting and they were shocked that I said yes lol

why is it that the people who want a PIXIE cut are the only one's I've seen to realize it's a good idea to start longer and shorten it as you go so you don't end up with hair at mid-ear-length rather than chin length

Some people will cut their hair regardless of whether or not you give hair tips. But, especially if some people can't afford a hairdresser, why not give a few tips so they don't mess up. I know when we struggled with money, it would have been nice to be able to have a nice haircut that I could do myself. Just because someone struggles with money, doesn't mean they don't deserve dignity and an ok haircut

Hi HB!! Absolutely agree. I've never done my hair at home and I never will. However, I really enjoy your videos and the knowledge you spread since there are many people out there who can't or won't go to a salon no matter what, and they can really benefit from all your tips. It's some kind of community service - I believe - and it won't make salons go out of business, there are many of us who will always be happy to pay to have our hair done. Keep up the good work💪 Lots of love from Argentina ❤❤❤

The beginning video is better than a hairdresser I went to that complained about my hair and literally butchered my pixie I remember going home and crying yeah, I let my hair grow after that and didn't go see her and I have been trimming my own hair and it looks nicer than the pixie so I am going to go get layers on it eventually so

I LOVE pixie haircuts! I used to have a pixie about 10 years ago. The problem is that my hair grows very fast and pixies are high maintenance to look really good. I had to go to the salon every two weeks to keep it nice and that costs. Maybe I will go back to one if I find a really good hairstylist. Not everyone can cut a good pixie.

That last clip with the amazing mom was so heart warming ❤ I did something similar. My two youngest got lice at school and they have so much hair, like little chinchillas. It was safest to shave them and treat the house. They were apprehensive about it being little and having autism. So I shaved my head too. Was funny because I got myself psyched up because I was worried I would be sad but I wasn’t and it felt freeing. Then we did a little photo shoot. I got a little flack from strangers being a mom with a shaved head but I didn’t do it for them. I have low key thought about doing it again lol

sweet girls! @Hair Buddha - I'm not sure whether to thank you or ... let me simply say, I need a change, I bought some different colors to choose from, and now? You've scared me silly. problem is I am in a major depression and I desperately need a change, I cannot afford a hair stylist anymore, so I'm stuck in should I or shouldn't I mode which is wrecking me. Your videos are fun and enjoyable - perfect really. Thanks for the effort you put in! Sincerely, Alyssa

It's not that bad. She has too much weight at the crown, but I don't know what her styling goal is. As to the mom, I don't blame her for wanting to cut her kid's hair. I did my kid's hair for years, but then again, I asked a lot of questions of the stylists that cut my hair over the years. I also educated myself for a long time because I thought I wanted to do hair for several years. NO, good stylists are not cheap. However, there is totally a pink tax and it's getting worse. My husband went for a cut at a decidedly "man's" shop and paid $25. Last time I went for a cut at a "discount" salon (Perfect look), roughly the same cut cost me $40. THAT is a pink tax. Which is why I started cutting my own hair and then decided to grow it out. I could have found a barber to clipper cut my hair for less, but I've tried several and they all want to razor cut, which destroys my hair. My cut wasn't complicated. Open 3 at the nape and tapered to an open 4 at the crown, thinning sheers at the top and bangs (and with my hair, this ends up a pixie). And yet, even at a barber, I was charged more because I'm female when a man beside me was charged at least half for practically the same cut. The Pink Tax is unfair. Hair is hair and it cuts the same. A Pink Tax pisses me off.

ah yes, whenever i say that i don't go to the hair dresser for financial reasons i often get the answer "they are professionals, they don't work for free..." and so on and YES, of course they shouldn't work for free, nobody expects them to. BUT for me, personally, it's just too high of a price. i can't afford it. it's around 70 to 80€ in my area, just for washing, cutting, drying. i don't say it's too much in general, it's just too much for me. so i keep my long hair although i pretty much hate it. i also had bad experience with hair dressers in the past, who completely butchered the hair cut and then i had to pay so much money for something i absolutely did not want. yeah, no.

I'll have to disagree that pixie cuts are hard. I've been cutting my own pixies for years. But then, I've always worn a pixie. Had one since I was 12. I can also cut my own hair, which is difficult, but I've spent years learning because I'm so tired of the pink tax. As long as you have the correct mirror set up, you can do it. Most folks don't.

When you said that somebody thought people would stop cutting their own hair if you quit making videos about it, my husband and I laughed. We are in our 60s, and how many times do you think either one of us ever went to a hairdresser when we were children? And who do you think cut our hair? Our mothers, of course. Yes, folks, before KZbin people still did things at home. It’s possible they didn’t do them as well, but they certainly did them.

I get that there are expenses. My ex husband owned a salon. I know. But there is never, ever, a reason for a Pink Tax. Women should never be charged more than men for a similar cut. I am totally willing to pay more for getting a shampoo with a great scalp massage. If I want color, I want a color specialist. If I want a perm, I want a perm specialist. I'm willing to pay more for that, but I'm not willing to pay more for a simple cut because I'm female.

I thought the pixie was super easy to do. The trick is to not be afraid to cut it. People leave it a little to long and it looks odd and old. Plus keep it up the grow out stages look so bad. Two large mirrors that you don’t hold, and fantastic lighting.

I liked the video until I heard the mom ask her very young and impressionable daughter “Do you feel like a boy?” and my jaw dropped and I instantly was very sad. You can’t feel like a gender. I hope that isn’t pushed on her daughter on a constant basis. All of these agendas being pushed on very young children is so sad. Just let kids be kids. (No hate just an observation.) All in all it was a cute video. I’m glad the daughter liked her hair cut and her twin sister did too. Their smiles are so adorable. 😃 It made me smile.
