I got a letter a couple of weeks ago… addressed to “The Occupier”.. On the front of the letter was written (in capitals - Red ink)… “Will you be home on the 4th of September ?” This was clearly meant to intimidate me and frighten me into buying a “License”…. I put the threatening letter in the bin. Today (Sept 4th), I waited excitedly for my visit… nobody came! I was very disappointed, I was quite looking forward to to saying “No thank you” and closing the door !

I have elderly relatives who pay for this extortion every year and however much I try to dissuade them they continue to pay for fear of being criminalised…. Simply send the unopened letter, to the sender, in an addressed envelope, but, without a stamp. They will get charged by the mail delivery company. I've done this previously, and the mail stopped overnight.

So yes, Renault owners now have to deal with Ford, send them their V5C forms etc. You pay your car tax to Ford, regardless of which make if car you drive, because Ford are the government-appointed agents for collecting that tax. Now the analogy is closer. The BBC is a state-owned, nationalised business that Parliament has authorised to collect a tax. It happens also to be the state-owned broadcaster, and thus gets to spend most of the tax it collects, but that's almost irrelevant. Parliament has organised things this way, not the BBC. And frankly, as someone who thinks _all_ live TV is rubbish and who legitimately doesn't pay the TV tax, long may this system continue. I dread Parliament changing its mind and deciding the TV tax is something everyone should pay whether they use a TV to watch live broadcasts or not.

I had quite a weird visit from a TV licence salesman in another property. I was home at the time when I heard a noise. I went to the door and saw that the TV sales chap had popped a card through my door saying he had visited but I was out. Unfortunately, not many people are downloading our songs.. probably because we’re a bit sh*t… but that’s beside the point.. I didn't even bother to find out if it was signed, sealed and delivered by the elusive Scott Robson or the notorious Ross McTaggart!

I recorded a video on my channel a few years back of me calling the police over a threat-o-gram letter from TVL and the police took it as blackmail and started to investigate it right up until they realised the blackmail letter was actually from TVL !! Its called... ( No More TV Licence - part 8, Report Blackmail letter to police ) if you want to check it out. I then recorded them sending two PCSOs around to my house to tell me its not blackmail after all 🤣

I don't think the BBC have anyone with one of those so I think I'm pretty safe lol

As it stands, we have the option to legally not pay. If they scrap this way of licensing it will not be free, it will be added onto most likely council tax, or a utility bill, as happens in other countries. Then we will all be paying it, even if we never use it. So no, keep it as long as possible, at least until their revenue drops to the point of being unsustainable.

In the last 2 weeks I've received emails saying I am being investigated for not having a TV licence , today's email which I can send you says you are now breaking a law if you watch TV!! I've cancelled my license fee because I was not using the services (I only watch KZbin; never live TV). I have informed CAPITA that I do not need a license, but we'll see where it goes from here. Just check their daily tv schedule. The vast majority of programs are repeats. It’s just not worth the licence fee.

Send them back the letter with a note stating that you "the legal occupier" (dont give them your name) dont require a TV licence as you dont watch or record live TV or use iPlayer ALSO state you are withdrawing their implied right of access, this means they cant walk up your drive to knock on your door or peer through you window, after which they can only send letters which you tear up and put in the bin ! Just make sure they cant see any TV in your property from the road in case there is any ambiguity about what you are watching on it.

@@SeanSoraghan Yes I agree you have no obligation to contact them, and on principle you shouldn't have to, in the same way you shouldn't be expected to tell the police every 6 months that you haven't committed any Real crimes lately. its probably easier just to ignore them. Withdrawing the implied right of access does not give them any ability to gain a search warrant, in the same way withdrawing the implied right of access to ANY saleman does not give them the ability to gain a warrant. where as them looking through your window and seeing you watch netflix which they mistake for a live TV broadcast might.

When I phoned them to say I didn't need a license he said he would put it on the system and send me a letter stating 'no licence required' he asked for my name, I asked why he wanted my name? He said 'I don't need your name but wanted to ensure you received the letter'. I said to him 'don't worry the 4 letters you've already sent found the address'.
