There is so much left out of the movie as Mel Gibson said if we had put it all in nobody would believe a single word of any of it. He had tuberculosis at the time of hacksaw ridge so he had to stiffle his coughing so as not not give away his location while finding injured soldiers he was diagnosed while in the V.A hospital and lost a lung to it. But that's not even half of it as he already was involved in two previous battles in the Pacific and was awarded the bronze star twice for the lives he saved in them the number of people he actually saved in the 3 battles he was involved in was closer to 300 men but he didn't want that on his medal of honour as not a prideful man he asked for just 50 to be shown but they settled on 75. He makes you want to be a better human being and his story is still taught to recruits to this day to show what one man is truly possible of doing if he really believes he can. Yeah well while I was on special duty in Bahrain I worked with the army (I was AD AF at the time). I had a private I worked the gate with and we got along great. One day he came in wearing shades and I started talking to him and he finally said "You're gonna find out soon enough." And took his shades off. He had a massive black eye. I asked what happened. He had a bunk mate that he didn't get along with. It finally came to a head and they fought. He said if his Sargent asked though he fell off his bunk. That was the actual story he told his Sargent right in front of me too. So yeah stuff like this does happen even if it isn't common.

It is always reassuring that ppl who are given mass destrzctiin weapons act like this and that it is seen as a way of being "one of us" to not kick out lunatics who act like that. In every military you find this kind of sadistic, babaric and completely useless behavior. And after they are done traumatizing each other at home, they get out into war. It is awful how "not snitching " is often romanticized in movies. Only full metal jacket has the balls to at least hint at what that dies to the psyche.

Desmond Doss was a Seventh Day Adventist, and would not carry a gun, and worshipped on the 7th. day of the week, Saturday, as per the commandments of the Seventh Day Adventist church. He was ridiculed right from the beginning of his training, beaten and humiliated. But who was the man without a gun that saved so many lives? Desmond Doss, you upheld your faith in great honour and deserved your medal. My dad was a Seventh Day Adventist and instead of taking up arms, he worked on the New Zealand hospital ship, Maunganui, as a medic. I took my 3 grandchildren to the Auckland Maritime Museum and as we turned a corner, there was a replica model ship of the Maunganui! How proud I was to see that.

As a Christian I never should have swore or pledged my life because the only one that I should ever do that for is the Lord. My Pastor, whose father was in the navy just as I was, he said he understood why I joined and that he and my ometown church never stopped supporting me and the choice to serve after we were attacked on 9/11. I am proud to say: I am a Christian I am the grandson of a soldier I am the son of a soldier I am a nephew of a soldier I am a cousin of soldier and marine I am a Sailor who is proud of his family and loves this country! Just a movie, just a scene But there are make or break moments like this…that will determine so much & holy hell what this man accomplished, the choices he made-where most-there’s just no way. But this all happened & more. Incredible individual Not “very many” seem to come around. I always try to remember that. So my daughter can understand it. This is different from “not speaking up about just anyone” beating you up. Anyway…it truly isn’t too late ever to find something or whatever that brings you peace or true joy But moments that define how difficult or how smooth things can be-I wish I could say they come more often than they really do Being around others that do great things-that’s THE difference Rest this man’s soul

The fact that he saved so many men and they all done that to them and he still saved some off the ones that beat him up is so disrespectful. They should not have been givin medals for what they done to a fellow soldier. It is so dishonourable what they done to him. Technically he saved them all way after they done that to him but that’s still fucked up. They shouldn’t call themselves soldiers for what they done.
