notice how zaheer’s ears are all beaten and look exactly like boxers’s ears. really cool detail considering he was one of the best fighters/martial artists before he became an airbender. also pay attention to his style of bending, unlike other airbenders kinda flowing with the wind, zaheer is kicking and punching, showing a more aggressive way of airbending

I think y'all are a little confused. Leaving the spirit portal open after harmonic convergence is what caused the return of airbending. And that happened a couple weeks ago. So yeah, Bumi just now discovered his airbending and they're blaming Korra for the spirit vine problem, which was a completely separate decision than the Unalaatu problem.

I don't think it's ever been explained why these particular people started to airbend but I like to think it's because they're the descendents of the Air Nomads, just like Bumi.

or they randomly got it because of the energy shift due to harmonic convergence... Vaatu and Raava were capable of letting humans hold element(s). So, would it be too terrible to say that the energy which most resembles Vaatu's and Raava's energy be capable of giving humans an element which the world most lacks? Light/Darkness will always exist in this universe; likewise, what if all the elements always exist as well and harmonic convergence is the ultimate source of balance which establishes this fact?

@@kairostimeYT Ooooooor I chose the option where the genocide of the Air Nomads didn't involve killing 99,999% of them. It's already established that Air Nomads easily lose their bending when they aren't spiritually well and that the surviving Nomads had been hunted down in the early years of the War. To say that some Nomads blended into Earth Kingdom society so much that they lost their bending and culture and 170 years later their descendents regained the bending fits well with Harmonic Convergence and the overall plot and themes of Avatar.

@@ninjaXladyXjae Well... like Bumi, not everybody born to the Nomads had airbending. Just like not every Water Tribe person bends water or every Earth Kingdom citizen bends earth. May and Ty Lee weren't firebenders. So, even considering genocide survivors, there could have just been more nonbending Nomads. They were called "nomads" for a reason. They were nomadic.

The creators confirmed that spirituality caused all air nomads to be born with airbending unlike the other elements. Bumi wasn't because he wasn't born into the air nomads rather a normal family between aang and katara. I don't think the spirituality deciding bending makes sense, but it is what it is.

I don't know what you're seeing, but that's airbending, straight up. It looks the way this show has always portrayed airbending. Harmonic convergence or keeping the portals open did something to rebalance the bending equilibrium, made new Airbenders to make up for their miniscule numbers. I feel comfortable saying this because that's all the explanation that's theorized by Tenzin in this episode. I don't recall it being explained further.
