I have absolutely no idea what a parole officer is but these are always fun nonetheless.

A parole officer is a person who keeps an eye on someone who just got out of prison. The "criminal" meets with their parole officer on a schedule (once a week, twice a day, whatever it is), and the officer is generally in charge of knowing where the "criminal" is at all times, in case the police or someone else (like the DA) needs to talk to them. That's how it works in America, at least. I don't know how it is in other countries.

@@sbcwmas1688 In Germany it's quite similar. The German word for this position ("Bewährungshelfer") would literally translate to "parole helper" which I find a good way of thinking about it since rehabilitation after imprisonment is so important.

​@sbcwmas1688 More specifically they keep an eye on someone who was released on parole, meaning they were released early, general on a set of conditions. If they commit additional crimes or violate the terms of their parole before it ends, they are sent back to prison. This can often include rules like not associating with known criminals, no drinking alcohol, etc., on top of the usual restrictions placed on released felons like with voting or owning a firearm. If someone serves their whole sentence, they don't have a parole officer.
