Not necessarily. I think of how Joseph was sold into slavery and how his God given gift propelled him to become Prince (ruler) of Egypt even though he was Hebrew. I doubt he was in Egypt pointing out all of the injustices committed by Pharaoh. Wisdom is navigating through life in a land that's not your own by worshiping your God and using the gifts he's given us. -- fight for civil rights? Yes, fight for equitable treatment - Yes - but let us not forget we can use our gifts too.

Thank you Prof and Dr. for the conversation and thoughts. I thought it was the best movie that I've seen in a long time. Thought-provoking, belly-laughs, cultural references and asks several important questions. Among them: Who are you? Are you who you say you are? Are you all that you ought to be? If that sounds familiar it is the Kawaida. Three Essential questions developed by Dr. Maulana Karenga. The movie also asks who and what are your idols -- the things you worship-- and who is controlling them and you? The movie surprised me in a good way.

I'm glad you said in the end being their own saviors. That's something I wish the black community would understand. We can save ourselves and probably will end up doing that in the end.

"Olympia Black" is the name of an author who writes science fiction books, mostly about aliens & artificial intelligence. He didnt just throw two words together for shits & giggles. These two are acting as if the director was just making a movie & all of the messages were just coincidences. He put those messages in the movie on purpose.
@oneoone
@oneoone Жыл бұрын
Yep. That’s what irked me the most about this breakdown video. Even their "assimilation/annihilation" segment was very condescending as if the director didn’t know the meanings of what he created. Of course he knew assimilation IS annihilation, that’s why the protagonist ultimately killed his original self in that scene.

Thank you, Professor Hunter and Dr. Carr for sharing your insights on They Cloned Tyrone. I watched the movie twice. I reflected on some of the issues explored and creative choices made in the film. Viewers are immediately confronted with stereotypes embodied through the main characters. The writers Juel Taylor and Tony Rettenmaier evoked humor, pop-cultural references, music, and social community in an interesting way. They also provided an intersectional lens into how racial, gender, and class oppression condition the lives of the main characters. I appreciate that some R&B songs from the 80s and 90s were included in the movie, like René & Angela's "I'll Be Good." That is my jam!!!

I very much enjoyed the movie and yes, we've seen these topics addressed individually in movies and the documentary Good Hair, but not in this way. The movie is as well as if not better written than some of the movies Dr. Carr compared it to while managing to deliver a message and social commentary without being heavy-handed and overdone (looking at you, Bamboozled). The comedic chemistry between Jamie and Teyonah was fun to watch. John Boyega showed a depth and vulnerability that I hope we all get to see more of. The movie has a retro 70s tone and texture like a grainy Polaroid. The music's not bad either, although I did find some of the song lyrics to be a bit on the nose. And it is genuinely funny. It isn't often that a movie designed to make you think also makes you laugh out loud but that's what They Cloned Tyrone does. Enjoy. 💜

I enjoyed the movie. A lot to create conversation and deep thought. His comments about being responsible for drugs and death in the community, him training the young fellow to give him information, the 3 of them walking amongst the folks in the underground and not being seen, his older scientific self doing what he did with the cloning because the community let his brother die in the streets. It’s a lot to discuss. But, in the end, the main statement is “we can’t give up” and we must continue to help educate/save our children, sisters and brothers. We are more than pimps, whores and drug dealers. We can be scientists too, but hopefully not one with a grudge or spite. 🤔🤷🏽‍♂️

This Grand Experience for those who look like the so-called founders is barely functioning on paper- THEIR CODIFIED laws. Never intended for Black US Aboriginal (non-immagrants) to progressive 5. If one fool goes to jail or dies, there is another one in line to take his place 2) Watching us: Everything we do is tracked. All monetary transactions, all texts, tweets, likes. Everything watched on streaming platforms is tracked. Just to name a few 3) The food, oh the food. Need I say more. 4) The church. OMG, took me back to when I first starting attending. What a mess, no real teaching from the scriptures, men didn't teach the boys, women didn't teach the girls. So much to say about this movie.

Had to watch it three times. I had to check myself and ask what stereotype did i possess Being Brainwashed. Knowledge of self will stop the bs. Bamboozled was just the good too!

They Cloned Tyrone seemed to take heavily from Jordan Peele's "Us" movie. Less dark but touches on some of the same themes using clones. I also thought it was brilliant that none of main characters was named Tyrone and we didn't meet him until the very end. To emphasize scope and scale. That was a smart choice.

It was better than US.

US was not black facing and it was to European artsy. And I actually didn’t see US in they cloned Tyrone at all.

@@DavidWilliams-ep9vu European artsy? Why, because it made people think, and wasn't mindless storytelling by the numbers?

I'm sorry I got more of a Spike Lee Bamboozled vibe with Drop Squad twist. The acting and writing were excellent.

I watched it yesterday. I found it ok. The ideas were covered before especially the fried chicken. I thought it was funny they didn't realize the sister was wearing a wig 😂. Loved Erica singing at the end. I knew all the words. As for the movie message its frustrating I feel like life is wearing me down.

That movie was interesting. More interesting is seeing the various locations in southeast Atlanta where a portion of the movie was taped. Joseph E. Boone Blvd. (fmrly Simpson Rd - The beginning scene, the old school cars driving scene), Lakewood Avenue (the convenient store scenes), and the 'free' scene at the end (I think Jonesboro Rd). There were many movies taped in Atlanta, but this is the first time I saw a movie taped in those aforementioned locations. The three main actors did a great job. I like the movie's subliminal messages as what the pair described.
