Cello player here. The bow hair fraying like that is something that happens, but not generally that much that quickly. I suspect they had bows prepared to get that effect. Probably had just been rehaired, and maybe it was done intentionally a bit loose so the hair would pull out easier. Something like that anyway. I can say I would not perform like that using a bow that I liked, lol. They were smacking them around hard enough I'd be afraid it would break. Although there are composite materials used for bows these days that are a lot stronger and more flexible than plain wood. These guys are legit though, very good musicians. I really wish back in the 80's when I was in college orchestra by day, and listening to rock and metal by night, that I had come up with this idea. Pure genius IMO.

My guess is that they use old bows, that might already have some lose bow hairs or they cut some of them in half, for the videos.

I saw them live more than once and you can see how bow shredds thru songs. They play aggressively, but when they play classical music bows dont shredd, at least not fast as they shredd when they play modern music. I was at 6 different live performances in 3 different countries, they start with whole bow, by the end of third song bow is dead literally...

The "Strings" that are breaking is actually horse hair. The use of horsehair on bows dates back centuries; its unique properties have yet to be replicated by any man-made alternative.

No reactors ever notice the few kids in audience, bored at first, then they begin to get totally into it as their parents try to calm them. Like the girl almost directly center scene when they show the audience.

Totally wish folks would notice that...very much the 50s vibe of parents poo-pooing the rock and roll wave that the kids were getting into...which has continued through each evolution of the genre.
@Wishbone1977
@Wishbone1977 5 ай бұрын
@@JamesBrown-wo2qj Well... kind of. Yes, historically it has been the "norm" for parents to think that the music their kids listen to is just noise, because it's generally been louder and faster than they were used to. However, I have found myself in the odd situation (and I think I'm probably in the first generation to experience this) that I find much of the stuff my son listens to incredibly _boring._ I recall a situation a few years ago where he and I were cooking in the kitchen, and he put one of his playlists on the speakers we have in there. After about 15 minutes I asked him "How _long_ is this song?" and he told me this was the third song on the list. I genuinely had not noticed the tracks changing, because they all sounded exactly alike. Monotone, minimalistic, _boring._ I suppose it's in part because we have actually reached a point where music can't really get any harder and wilder without actually devolving into mere noise, so it is diversifying in other directions. Of course it has always diversified in many directions at once, but the drive to push the boundaries for how hard, fast and loud it can go has probably diminished somewhat over the past 20 years.

Seeing Steve Vai playing with them is awesome!! Once again a fantastic vid, Seeing someone like Steve at a signing and getting half stood up by the boys at the beginning was so cool. If you want to explore Steve Vai, I suggest the album "Sex and Religion" as a good start point. Or if you just like the instrumental, Marty Friedman's "Scenes" or "Dragon's kiss" (Scenes is mellow, Dragon's kiss is very much more metal) Of course, you could always go surfing with the alien with Joe Satriani!!

The cello can be set up as a C clef instrument. Not a lot of musical instruments can live in the middle clef-- but one of them happens to be the human voice. The cello can be played in the same key as a vocalist, which is one reason this instrument works so well in rock interpretations.

My father was a full-time professional violinist for 60 years. He explained to me that when performers want the strings on their bows to fray (break for dramatic effect), they'd have their bows strung with special (weak) strings to achieve that effect for dramatic effect or, as in this case, comedic effect. Also, they mimicked AC DC's antics as part of the comic effect that viewers miss if they haven't seen a full AC DC concert.

String instruments, specifically the Cello and the Violin, are some of the hardest to master. They dont have specific “sections” or “frets” to differentiate highs and lows of notes. It’s all muscle memory, and impossible to visualize without training. I would love to be good at the Cello and Chess. Two things that take a lifetime to master.

This "classical twist on modern rock" reminds me of the Christmas lights display set to music by TSO (Trans-Siberian Orchestra). The original song used was Wizards Of Winter, which is probably 20 years old now (!!!) It's been forever since I've seen those light display synchronizations appear in KZbin and I wonder if anyone of "current generation" has seen them? Those would be a blast to revist - something to consider for the holiday season 2024/2025... along with the "Christmas trilogy" material (Christmas Eve & Other Stories - 1996, The Christmas Attic - 1998, The Lost Christmas Eve - 2004) from TSO in general.
