Due to the thinning of ice in Antarctica, undiscovered deep-sea predators begin to surface. A group of scientists investigates the phenomena to ensure the safety of the sea creatures and the humans they might encounter. However, when their divers fail to report back on time, they discover a creature that might be the key to human evolution or their extinction.

So let me get this straight. This octopus, that has lived it's entire life in the ocean, within 24 hours: Makes its first contact with humans, Learns to understand spoken English and Mandarin, Learns to read English and Mandarin, having had no prior knowledge of even the concept of reading, Learns about electricity and how it interacts with water, Learns how to use and then program a computer, again with no prior knowledge of even the concept of a computer, Learns about biology to the extent of understanding how to manipulate DNA to achieve a desired outcome in an organism, Learns to alter its own DNA without the need for technology. This is some straight BS right here. It reads like a bad fanfic with a Mary Sue character if it was written by an octopus.

I'm not saying anything in support of this film, never even heard of it actually. But isn't the point of a sci-fi/fantasy kind of movie to show things that would never be possible in real life or at least be very unlikely? I'm just saying in the world of this movie if this octopus creature existed so long ago who knows what stuff happened? The way I see it with a movie like this you're just supposed to lose yourself and enjoy the ride and be scared. But that's just me, what's your take?

Theoretically, if there was a second intelligent species on the planet that was far more intelligent than us, I wouldn't expect any less than them sending an agent (the octopus) to steal intel. But I agree the last bit of the octopus mutating at will is some serious acid trip.

@@lib-center96 eeeeeeh if there was a second intelligent species on planet earth that was capable of doing that, they wouldn't need to go mission impossible on us to figure out what genetic engineering is. sure nations send spies to figure out what the other nations are up to, but that's because they are wondering what the other knows/doesn't know meanwhile they are working on the same basic idea. The only way I see this happening is if it's some kind of alien. Just because you know what DNA is doesn't mean you'll master genetic engineering... let alone have control of your own cell mutation.... A far more plausible scenario following this movie is that an alien organism landed on earth and is collection all of the best genetic markers on earth... in a absolutely ridiculousness stupid... oh so god damn stupid way.
