Could one describe this as , Shelving Static Boost+ Upwards Expansion in the Mid portion of the signal in the Low End , Statik Boost+Compression in the mids and Side portion of the signal Shelving Upwards Expansion in the Highs ? Or am i seing it wrong?

As recently as 20 years ago the only way to get this kind of information was to assist in a studio and do the real grunt work. "Pay your dues". Its an insane time we live in that one can get any information they need from youtube. Thank you Streaky! Your videos have improved my mixing and mastering skills 10 fold.

@@joeferris5086 yes its crazy nowadays. Of course it has its caveats cause when you assisted in a studio that was in business back in the day it most times meant they know a bit about what they are doing while on the internet there are many charlatans among the good ones like Streaky who actually know what they are talking about and its sometimes hard to pick the good ones cause its an overwhelming amount of individuals with unclear backrounds.

I've been doing this dynamic EQ trick on my master chain for a while (but with ProAudioDSP DSM V3 instead of ProQ) without knowing it was a pro mastering trick! 😀 It definitely gives life to the track after all the taming and compression that happens in the mix/master chains.

I totally understand pros not wanting to share all of what they’ve learned. I’m a touring/recording/writing musician by trade but this year I went hard on learning mixing because I enjoy it and finally had time. And now I’m getting (modest)recognition for having a talent there... and I’m getting a but guarded about *some* of what I’ve learned. Because I put hundreds of hours into mixing and that’s how I started to discover these “ah-ha!!” moments. Especially stuff that’s a big part of “my” style. So we appreciate you sharing your knowledge! There’s some tools that do this kind of thing auto-magically with dynamic EQ but it’s always way more beneficial to understand what’s happening and be able to tailor it yourself. Thanks 😁🙏

Your expertise is the final touch that makes productions shine, and the fact that you share your knowledge so generously is simply amazing fam. Sucks that there are some engineers out there who can't handle your brilliance and get all insecure and start crying, but that's their loss. You go to bed every night knowing you're killing it by making a positive impact on the lives of others, and I hope all of us can reach that level of fulfillment someday. Basically creating artificial automated complex volume automations, it indeed makes the track sound more 3d and all over the place, adding some depth, but I'm not sure it would suit every types of music though, it makes the song less focused, less clear. I can see myself using this on electronic music but not on singer songwriter stuff for example.

I am currently studying electronics engineering, with the hopes of some day designing an selling my own studio equipment. If you don't mind, may I ask, what is your philosophy on training our ears as slaves to the sound. This may be a silly idea, but I wonder if you could use dynamic EQ as a means of psychoacoustic mimicry of equal loudness curves using the specific frequencies of those curves. I mean, if we perceive louder sound as having a different EQ curve to quieter sound, perhaps it works in the opposite way as well: if we set up the dynamic EQ curve to match the equal loudness curves of human hearing, perhaps it would make louder bits sound like they’re even louder and make the dynamics more dramatic because it’s fooling our brains with the EQ, if you see what I mean.
