I have a hard time understanding how ANYONE would pay that much for the materials being used in this knife. I can get a full custom in CPM-3V for less than what your paying for in a knife using only 12c27. Even the Garberg in 14C28N is going to have better performance. Cool knife, but about 2x as expensive as it should be.

For me it's not totally fair to compare big brands like Morakniv to small shop/craftsman. A small shop/craftsman sells the knives directly, while big brands have distributor and wholesale prices that "eat" probably half of the money of the selling price. There are several other Nordic brands like Helle, Karesuando, Buslleto to name a few, sell outdoor knives in the 150-200€ with the same steel. They are targeting a price range already crowded with house name brand. its going to interesting to see what his line will evolve and adapt to that segment

@jock-of-ages73
@jock-of-ages73 Жыл бұрын
@@TH-rj4ds The smallest one will be around £100 at best when it goes on sale in the UK, probably more. I've been collecting since being a kid, more so the past 15yrs. You can't help but see patterns in the prices as time goes on, the one in the video is going for $300 in Canada, that's £184 here. Don't get me wrong, Mora's are great knives, especially Garbergs and i'd rec'd one to anyone, just not this one.
@MrFreeGman

The whole appeal of morakniv was that they have high quality knives at a very reasonable price. This knife is indeed beautiful and no doubt high quality, but at over $200 it's just another high end piece of gear that I can't justify spending my money on, especially when my Bushcraft Black will get the exact same job done.
@J.sh_CDN

I've never broken any of my stick tang moras, especially not the heavier duty versions or Kansbol. Those are way cheaper than even the Garberg, and have the same steel as these new ones, at a 10th the price. Even the Garberg with better steel, is cheaper. These knives look great but are idiotically priced. Don't support them for ripping off people with budget materials.

@RalphTGP I'm comparing its price to other Mora knives in the same company, so it has nothing to do with wages anywhere. Two normal Mora knives have more steel than one full tang new knives. The Garberg has a better Steel and can also have a leather sheath Even comparing to other Mora knives, the price increase is extreme, and is a rip off

Yes, that tendon thing affects some of my family and possibly me in time. My family are from the Hebridies a common place to go viking by Scandinavians in the old days- so we have some of that blood in our veins too. It used effect my uncle terribly and his hand would lock into a claw almost. A wee dram usually helped though.

Very nice! I like that they put the little speed bump to help prevent the hand from sliding up on to the edge when you're cold and wet. For the handles, I'd hit them with a wire wheel and then coat them with pine tar. Nothing better for wood handles, especially if they're going to be out in the wilds.

This knife in Carbon steel would be something :) Still uses my Gandpa's old Classic Mora from the 60s, fulltang red handle, and it becomes more beautiful as it ages, and it can handle any beating, and still bounce back. If dull, one can sharpen it on a stone, then strap it on jeans or a belt and its scary edgy again.

It's my understanding that Mora is a place in Sweden that has been making steel blades for about 400 years. The Morakniv company was founded at the end of the 19th century. It's taken them over 100 years to finally produce a full tang, wood handled bushknife. The Lok looks like a wonderful addition to their line. But someone needs to do a comparison video between the Lok and the Companion. Full price vs. budget.

At the price, ferro rod, dangler and ferro loop should be included. You don't have to have knives made in China to avo8d the price they're asking. At 160-240 you can get knives from BRK, LT Wright, Bradford or GSO (if you're lucky) made from A2, Aeb-l, 3V, Elmax, m390 or magnacut. You can have hand made customs made for that price. Mora gives you 12c27 and the cheapest wood for handle scales at the price of super steels and micarta, G10 or even carbon fiber. Joker or BPS give you similar knives for 4-6 times less in price or Joker made with much better materials (like 14c28n or n695 and micarta) for 2-3 tines less in price. Mora has its own knives like the Garburg that are better and cheaper.

I really like the new models. However, I don't believe the price is justified. Even if they're made in Sweden. Labour is more expensive compared to China, but the tangs are stamped out and finished. Not a lot of hours. The scales are nice but don't seem flush with the tang. Again, nice shaping but it doesn't take long to make them. And the 'recycled stainless' steel, presumably 12c27, is a lower end cheaper steel. Doesn't add up to €239 for the model you're reviewing.

Then I received one as a part of an old Swedish Army medic’s bag. Wood handle, carbon blade. Have since gotten both an Eldrus and a Companion. Now to go into the woods to use them, before the woods become more suburbs. Cold Steel makes two nice Puuko style knives in the Finn Hawk and Finn Bear. Got a bit carried away. Slowly returning to simpler knives like these that can serve multiple roles. Not planning on battling Ninja Aliens with meteorite sourced, Damascus steel blades and spears with titanium handles and exotic stones. While the Lok is at a high price point, some channels show EDC that needs a bodyguard to protect. 🙄🥹

I own several Mora's and I love them! When the Garberg came out I thought it was a little expensive. But I have to admit it's a great knife and I would buy another one if something happened to this one! I like the looks of the new one but I don't think it's really worth the money!

The screws can be modified with a torx key. These look like a hex head but are more star shaped.

Bradford Guardian 4.5 is the same price, made in USA, and made with cpm3v. Check out Joker knives. Made with similar material (14c28n so i think Joker knives use better steel) priced about $100 LESS. Made is Spain not China. It is what it is. It is ridiculously overpriced.

It appears to be a quality knife, made with care. But it is about twice as expensive as I would be willing to pay for that steel type and handle material. Hoping they come down in price.

Mora had three strong points: price, price, and price. Ok steel, ok handle, ok construction. That’s about it. I thought the Garberg was stretching things but this is too much. I like my cheap moras just fine but no one ever said they were a great knife- great value and ok knife. Not this.

Nice knife. I agree with you Bjorn, about the lack of an attached fire starter. I also dislike the short handle lengths on many US knives. I wear EU Size 12 gloves-with the tips cut off-for my work as a carpenter; and when gardening, shooting or hunting. Cheers from NZ.
