But different people in the community or really, any community, especially marginalized ones, have different preferences and ways they want to be addressed because they're not a monolith. What I've learned over time is just that you should respect what someone prefers as much as you can. The crazy thing about this to me, is that despite it's two main flaws that Nico mentions at the end, the cost is actually *pretty fucking good* at $6700 USD. Don't get me wrong, I (and most of us here) can't afford this, but here's the thing: By the time you buy a nice camera ($3500+/-), a nice gimbal for your nice camera($1200+/- and rebalancing etc.), a nice wireless setup for your nice camera(hundreds), and some way to pull focus in a nice way($$ and many man hours), you will have probably met or actually EXCEEDED the cost of this camera...Once you have this setup, you STILL won't have 4 axis stabilization, and you *absolutely* will not have the LIDAR autofocus/focus pulling. ...So not only is this a revolutionary camera, the price is MORE than competitive for what it offers, apart from a couple downsides (the lenses, which can be addressed) and the RAW format. Really quite amazing.

The camera body for a pro camera is usually more than that. I wonder if they will make a more modular one in the future, since not everyone will need the gimbals, or will want to build up their system over time, but at this price I feel they are going to crush the competition.
@Quivex13 жыл бұрын
@@excitedbox5705 If I had to guess, prooobably not. Since DJI doesn't have the brand recognition (when it comes to cameras/sensors anyways) that RED, Sony, blackmagic etc. do, people would be wary of purchasing the body itself, which I also think is where most of the cost is. Since DJI has tons of experience making gimbals and drones etc. I have a feeling that the reason for this price is that they can build everything around the camera relatively cheaply, and therefore sell it at the price point it's at. The body itself (if I had to guess) would probably not be that much cheaper to buy. I have a feeling this is their push to try to make a name for themselves in the professional camera space, and after this "flagship" product becomes successful they might start selling bodies by themselves.

All the folks saying how expensive this camera is sure make me feel old... When I started out my first purchase was a Sony V5000 - it shot Hi8 (!) and was a giant shoulder-mount camera and was about the same price as the DJI. If I'd wanted broadcast quality like a Betacam SP it would've cost 50K... As for a filmic look, well then I'd need at least 100K for a basic Arriflex package (and would need a crew to use it and record sound and would need several more thousands for Post Production!). Seriously we are sooo spoiled for choice these days. Amazing time to be a creator and I wish I was 20yrs younger! :)

I think perhaps many people complaining at the price, are perhaps comparing this to cameras and gimbles more suited to personal vlogging. If you look at this as an alternative to something like a $2k - 3$k Sony, Canon, or Nikon plus a handheld gimbal, and make the mistake of thinking these are comparable products, of course it will appear expensive. I saw this and instantly decided that i need this camera. Have always wanted a Red. Either the Gemini, or one of the better models. But while they arent too expensive when it comes to professional movie gear that is actual high theatrical quality (just look at movies filmed with red, like The Revenant and more). They are way more expensive than anything i can afford. Especially since the Gemini itself is 19k USD. That is without gear needed to get it to actually work proberly. You still need lenses, rigs, and more. It simply becomes too expensive, to the point where i just cant afford it. Now i love the red, they have exactly the look and depth i love in movies, even raw without editing or using filters. And thats why i at first focused on that camera. But again, you need to buy so much stuff along with it to actually have a functioning camera, and even more if you want an easy to work with camera if you arent filming with a larger crew and with a decent and professional movie budget, like blockbusters or smth. And its just too much work and money for me who rn dont have any possibility of getting a crew like that. This camera though. Damn. Everything that you have to buy separately with the red, you just get in this camera (except for some things ofc). And not only that, i checked the price. And idk if this is actually the price for it or if its just the price for ordering it before release, cus ngl it seems very cheap for what you're actually getting. But this camera is about 7k USD. Now idk if the actual filming quality of this camera is to the level of a red, so far i would say its close enough to the point where i dont care if the red is higher image quality, cus i can barely tell. And yeah, a red you can swap into many different rigs and gimbles, and you can put alot of different gear on it, and its a very flexible and varied camera in that sense. But you still have to buy all this stuff separately and use time getting it to work. Which 1 is SUPER expensive. And 2 extremely time consuming. If u can get this camera for 7k and all you need is just to but lenses separately (which the webside has as well) then screw wether or not a red or any other cinema camera has better image, and more possibilities. This makes work as easy for you as possible, and gives you everything that you absolutely need, in one package. And a relatively cheap one.

The DJI video released certainly peaked my interest but you using some live examples of how good the camera and it's accessories are really convinced me that this is going to be an incredible piece of equipment and a game changer. I don't think this'll be an ARRI killer, but it's certainly going to push many to achieve the same standards DJI just opened up with this Ronin 4D. Great retrospective, I can't wait to see the type of on-set use of this camera for your videos moving forward.

The big innovation I keep expecting to see but which never seems to really come to fruition are "light field" cameras like the Lytro, where the sensor measures light rays in a three-dimensional way which has some really cool feature; first, you can focus each shot *after* shooting since everything is essentially captured in focus at the time, and you can blur out background and foreground later. It also eliminates the need for green-screen, because you can use the distance to cut out the parts you don't want. No idea why it's so slow on the uptake, because that has always seemed like a game changer to me, but the technology has been struggling to gain ground for a while now (more than a decade).
@hotchi15663 жыл бұрын
I think the biggest advantage of this DJI Ronin 4D cinematic camera system is that it significantly saves human resource expenses, significantly reduces the cost and difficulty of the project, and significantly reduces the time for project preparation and shooting. For example, for a project which used to require four or five persons, with this system, it only takes one or two persons to complete. In terms of long-term operation, the cost of human resources is far more than the cost of camera equipments, so this is the biggest advantage of this system in my opinion.

@ReadySetGoPictures3 жыл бұрын
@@maverickdigital5410 Cinetape came out in like 2012 if I remember correctly, its ultrasonic too. Most are. The LR2 is the closest thing to this.LR2 is obviously much more expensive and has many more tools. With DJI, Its a cool feature, ill admit, but I would personally like to test it out side by side on a LR2 setup. I don't need the image from dji (which is still cool) to see where I need to be focused, I can just use the readouts from one the the LR2 readings and be able to tell the distance from someones hands to their face. I could see the image being distracting. Or just know the distance old school haha.for $400 i don't expect much. A lot goes in to these types of measuring devices, angle of beam, degree of accuracy, haze/fog tolerance, ability to have an offset. I don't think DJI is going to revolutionize wireless focus. They tried with a hand unit years ago and it didn't work. Im sure their is some latency in their "motors". Again, its cool what they are doing, but I think high end / professional sets will continue to use industry standard tools. Its good to see innovation and creativity, but there are always trade offs with stuff like this. EDIT: also these tools are secondary in my mind. I don't ever go 100% off of these or limit my ability by needing them to accurately pull.

I have it now and absolutley love it. Drawbacks are the slowmo 50/60frames per second is only 2:39:1 ratio. Great for short or Feature films , but corporate clients or TV don't want that mixed in with 16:9 footage. So either you have to crop in the 2:39:1 footage or do the whole shoot with 2:39:1 aspect ration in mind and put markers on the 16:9 footage for framing.

I’m pretty pumped to get hands on time with this camera and I know we’ve already got some pre ordered. I’m curious as to the limitations of non DL mount lenses as customers will surely want to use other glass and I’ll be the one testing out the builds for sure. The LiDAR focus system looks sweet as does the steadicam like gimbal. I also hope DJI comes out with some updated DL mount glass and as Niko stated and updates what codecs the camera can shoot in. I’m guessing it won’t be long before I get customers wanting to put Zeiss CP 2/3 lenses on them or Sigma Cine primes. ProRes Raw is a “true” raw/compressed raw codec. I don’t think the request for additional codec support should be aimed at DJI but BlackMagic instead. With ProRes Raw can indeed change exposure, temperature, and ISO after capture just like RED Raw and BM Raw. Great piece though

But its also a codec that only has support in certain programs because apple will be apple. Weird thing about this camera is that it doesn't have ProRes 4.4.4 / XQ so if you cant use ProRes Raw you're stuck with ProRes 4.2.2 or H.264 4.2.0 Edit: Also ProRes Raw only works with their own storage medium..... which my guess is just an m.2 NVME ssd in a proprietary enclosure....
