Germany is one of the most fun countries in Hearts of Iron 4, but it's focus tree is.. meh. However, thanks to MODS, especially the Road to 56 mod, you can now finally play as Communist Germany!

The addition of Historical presets into Hearts of Iron IV was an awesome thing for massive history nerds like myself. Now, I play REALLY historically, using only the stupid tanks and planes that happened in real life! I'm aiming to do this with EVERY country in the game (or at least every major) so let me know a good suggestion down in the comments for more countries to play!

rt56 has one annoying thing for Germany. When you go democratic or communist, you start a civil war and you lose your GER tag and instead get a dynamic tag and you lost most of your stuff, like ship templates, ships in production, tank templates, etc... And I'm just vehemently against the whole "putting the player into a Dynamic Tag" idea which even Paradox refuses to do with the spanish 4 way civil war. At least that was the case when I played rt56 a while ago.

YES that definitely affected me xD Had to redo a lot of templates :P

@@Aldrahill I mentioned that on the reddit once, they did a change that made it so that the templates would move to the other factions, but it's still not a good solution and it breaks the game, no amount of "original_tag = GER" can fix the bugs a dynamic tag player has to deal with. And it's the sole reason why I don't play rt56 anymore.

They should've just coded it so that there's a Focus for every Route, basically a very short/ 7 day focus that starts the war, so that you can code it so the other countries are the opposing ideologies and you retain the German Advisors, MIOs, etc. without needing to do a mid-game Tag-Switch, which is not only awkward but horrible for Multiplayer. (Democratic Supporters start civil war, Fascism Supporters start civil war, Politics will change: Communism becomes the Ruling Party type deal, suuuper simple.)

the case of German communists is such a tragic one at some point they had this massive popular movement only for the revolution to fail, most prominent members end up in concentration camps and the movement fading into obscurity by 1936 I'd love to have a 1917 -ish start date where you'd be able bring spartakists to power in Germany and fight the russian civil war p s. 23:09 I’ve not really played with it, but ‘shock troops’ are one of those features I’m so pleased to see in RT56. Shock troops are what most people think of special forces. They have their ‘origins’ in ww1, when they were cultivated for being trench stormers (actually they’ve been doing great work in ukraine), they are the pure human speical force rather than special becuase if their equipment, so they do have that heightened aggression and reckless abandon for life, unlike marine and stuff.

honestly, i’ve always been disappointed by most hoi4 communist trees. rt56’s is okay for germany, but lowkey left me with the same vibe that vanilla commie japan left me. maybe it’s just me, but content wise there just isn’t a whole lot to do (when there is seriously so much alternate history you could do)

I did the democratic path, and it was pretty fun not very stressful, because I knew I was gonna only be fighting the Soviets, so i even afforded myself to mostly mechanize the army.
