After having an amniocentesis, they asked me what I would like to do if it came back positive. When I told them that I would have my baby and love it anyway; the doctor almost blew a gasket! He asked me why I wasted their time! I told him that I was under the assumption that they were doing it to prepare me for the possibility, and to provide medical care if the occasion arose where it was necessary. He and the nurse stormed out like I had committed some unforgivable offense against them!! (I could see how some people who were not used to being around a child with such a condition would have caved in and agreed to abort the baby) I am happy to say, I went on to have 2 healthy children. He seemed a little surprised, but didn't throw a fit. The test came back negative, but just like most families (not us) like to find out the sex of their baby so they have time to prepare (buy corresponding nursery items and clothes, pick a name, etc.), we just wanted time to prepare if faced with raising a child with a disability. The ancient civilization most commonly associated with records of rulers living for hundreds of years is ancient Mesopotamia. Specifically, in Sumerian and Akkadian mythologies, there are stories of rulers known as "kings list" where some kings were said to have reigned for incredibly long periods, sometimes exceeding lifespans of thousands of years. One famous example is the Sumerian King List, which includes rulers such as Alulim, who purportedly reigned for 28,800 years, and En-men-lu-ana, who supposedly ruled for 43,200 years. These accounts are typically considered mythological rather than historical fact, and they likely served symbolic or religious purposes in the civilizations' cultural narratives.

We have two sons with Down syndrome: one is our biological son, who is "higher functioning" and fairly independent. The younger one, we adopted as an infant. He is non-verbal and on the Autism spectrum. We have to be detectives when it comes to him because he can't tell us when he is sick or sad; we have to go by his behavior. So, yes, it can be like caring for a pet in that respect. He is very much a human being though, with emotions and needs just like everyone else. He is whip-smart and knows SO much more than we will ever understand because it's so difficult for him to express himself. He does use an augmentative communication device, but that has limits. It's frustrating for him and, at times, effects his behavior negatively as it would ANY of us. Can you imagine hurting and not being able to tell your caregivers what hurts? My husband and I REALLY have to be on our toes and pay attention to the little quirks in his personality. But God gave us this child for His reasons and we know we likely won't find out all of those reasons until we are all with Him, and our son is finally able to speak. I'm looking forward to that day, but count the days until then as a chance to learn to be more like Christ.

Humans once were supposed to live forever without death, then Adam and Eve sinned...and the entire human history goes downhill from there, and God cut humans' lives to 900 years, 120 years... The more sins humans commit the shorter our lifespans become. TRUTH
@joesalyers11 ай бұрын
You miss interpret the 120 years statement in Genesis let me explain it isn't talking about lifespan. When God makes the 120 year decree "My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years" he isn't taking about human lifespan but the years Noah has left before the flood comes. But in English it gets misunderstood. The English translations is close but misses the mark. Also on another level it makes no sense because for generations and Generation after the flood men lived beyond the 120 year mark, including Abraham who lived 175 years and Abraham's life would have been nearly 3 centuries after the flood. So in the other Biblically historical books mentioned in the bible like Jasher (mentioned by Joshua while conquering Cainan) we know God gave man a chance to repent and Noah needed time to get ready for the flood. God gives his timeline and its 120 years.
@CP-zb3ky11 ай бұрын
@@joesalyers I'm afraid you're the one mistaken, 120 years is very clear in many places of the bible- Genesis 6:3, Deuteronomy 34:7, Numbers 33:39, Judges 2:8 etc. What bible are you reading? Besides, whether 900 or 120 is approximate for each period, of course some may live a little longer some a little shorter. Just like today's human lifespan is 80 (Psalms 90:10), some people live beyond 80 some die earlier than 80. You may be right that it was 120 years before the flood when God promised it, but it's also true human lifespan was cut to about 120 years especially in light of other parts of Scriptures. And it appears to be further cut to 80 (Psalms 90:10) which agree with facts today. The more sinful human race becomes, the further the righteous and holy God cuts short the human lifespan.
@joesalyers11 ай бұрын
@@CP-zb3kyIn Hebrew its clear in English it is just isn't! When God made the decree to Lamech of 120 years it was exactly 120 years from that day to the day the flood began the Dead sea scrolls calendars are clear about this along with Methuselah dying 7 days before the flood. God keeps good records. I never gave Noah's age. I did use Abrahams age of 175 as an example who was born between a couple centuries after the flood in UR and even after 2 centuries men were still living beyond 120 years so that claim is just misunderstood God is never that slow at anything he decrees. Why does it matter because the records from Qumran kept by their Preists were meticulous and confirm what Hebrew texts have said. They were Esseens lead by Zadokite priests who tried to warn the Pharisees that the time of law was ending and the time of the Messiah was coming based on the timeframe God had given to them in the Calendar passed down since before the flood. So I'm using what is known by not only Rabbis but to the ancient Israelites. But it matters because its just mistranslation and a miscommunication from Hebrew to english. Why is all of this important because when the disciples asked Jesus when would they know the end is near he said "as it was in the days of Noah so shall the days of the coming of the son of man be". Its very important to understand that time period. Cheers!

The Noahic flood buried everything..including antediluvian man and his civilizations. Noah lived for 350 years after the flood and died at 950 years old (Genesis 9:28-29). This means he lived long enough to not only see the land restored after the flood but to see all three of his sons start their families and multiply. His son Shem started the family line which led to Abraham, which is where we get the term “Semite”(descendants of Shem). Of course today ...most scientists see the Earth as shaped by uniformitarian factors and not the catastrophicism found in the fossil record. Humans lived 900+ years because their genetics started off prefect and had not had much time to deteriorate before the rebellion that caused the flood... after the flood was another great genetic bottle neck that once again caused in-breeding that multiplied the errors in our genetics and dramatically reduced our life span. The same thing also would have happened to dinosaurs and shortened their life span and in their case their size because reptiles grow their entire life, without being able to reach a great size a lot of them probably just couldn't make it with no big ones to defend the little ones they just dwindled along with only a few specimens getting big and written about in ancient texts like job then they just went extinct because they couldn't really handle the new world.

What proof do you have for that people really lived over 900 years, apart from text in the Bible? We have extensive fossil evidence of humans from paleolithic times through to late biblical times. None of the people whose remains have been uncovered ever lived such long lives. The Bible is also not consistent. The Bible talks about Biblical figures as ancestors, while according to the ages mentioned in the Bible those ancestors would still be alive at that time and hence not be referred to as ancestors.
@mattmccullough109310 ай бұрын
@JanKluiver Scientists have confirmed it and found prehistoric human bones. And everything in the bible has been proven to be true. God is real and I pray that someday you find him and let him into your heart. And once you give your life to god there's only room in your heart for love not hate. The reason why we don't live over 900 years anymore is because God's shortened. Our life's to 120 years after the flood because of sin. And from a scientific point of view, it has been proven from studying dinosaurs that the air was different. At one point in time in history. And the gravity wasn't as strong as it is today.

I have already difficulty to remember when certain events took place in my personal life and in the history of my country since 1100 AD. Thanks to a single reference date, writing and the internet nowadays I can "remember". I wonder how the collective memory managed to keep track of history in those days, before it was put in writing. I agree that the proof that people did not reach such high ages should be strengthened. At the moment, we do not know the mechanism(s) of aging. Once we know that, we possibly can say more about changed in human aging. For your statement that everything in the Bible is true. None of them are a problem for a Biblical Worldview.
