To the issue of women, let me say this, Eph 5:25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; Eph 5:28 So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself. Eph 5:29 For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church: Col 3:19 Husbands, love your wives, and be not bitter against them. In my humble view, if men loved their wives as the Word says, no woman would have a reason to worry that if they submitted that they would be hurt by their husband, if you know somebody loves you with Godly love, they are not going to abuse or violate the trust of the woman. Marriage is a partnership, the man includes and discusses decisions with his wife, and while the husband does have the final say, yet he values his wife opinion and takes it into account seriously. In a Godly biblical marriage, the wife has nothing to fear from being submissive.

I think, double check this, that the word submissive is not meant in the way we hold it today. I noticed in the new NIV version that everywhere it says "man" or "mankind" they replaced it with "people". And everywhere it says "dear brothers", they replaced it with "dear brothers and sisters". I don't know if that's good or not, but it's starting to drift from the original connotation in my opinion. I don't like it that much.
@elisefoad2326
@elisefoad2326 7 күн бұрын
Though I haven't seen the New NIV, based on your examples, that variation is more to do with changes in language usage over time than with trying to manipulate the word of God. Historically "man" could be used to mean a individual male person or it could be a reference to the whole of humanity. In the same way "brother" was used to refer to a male sibling, a male relative in general or it could be used to refer to anyobe you have dealings with. Modern English doesn't do this so much, and with the recent focus on gender awareness and associated agendas has largely fallen out of favour altogether. By making these adjustments would be to keep the text correct in line with modern usage of language. E.g. if the scripture were: man shall not live by bread alone ... the scipture was never intended for only men and changing "man" to "people" keeps the passage in line with modern usage of language. Historucally, this has been done previously in other ways in transaltions like the NIV when grandson has been substitute for son's son, or changing measures to modern equivalents. Changes we need to be aware of are those that change the meaning of the scripture. These are dangerous and against scripture and the truth of God

@garrygraham
@garrygraham 6 күн бұрын
@ there is no 'one'. But there are a range of better versions. Word-for-word translations tend to be more reliable, e.g. KJV, NKJV, NASB, ESV, NET, LSB. Modern versions like ESV, NET and ESV tend to be better because they have had access to early manuscripts discovered after the old translations like the KJV were written. Thought-for-thought versions like NLT might be nice for easy reading but no good for study. And there are serious issues with many, including the NLT. Paraphrases like the Message and Passion 'translation' are of little value for understanding Scripture.

I have always been very cautious of study bibles as we do not know the contributors of the notes interspersed throughout. Strictly speaking, it is not the Holy Bible, as it contains a lot of human opinions and in this UDK study bible, the opinions of those with very anti-Christian doctrines.

Some people said there are 'good' parts but what's really terrible is when the bad is mixed into the good, and going about deceiving the less informed, leading others astray. The tricky part is when things seem cool, reasonable, but actually there is poison in the porridge.

Through the years I've made some minor corrections to the translation in the New American Standard Bible (NASB), based on the Greek words used. I'm not even a scholar or expert in the Greek. Now I'm learning some basic Hebrew to better understand the old testament. Then something like this comes along, and it's like someone coming along behind me and spraying graffiti on the nice building I was just walking by and admiring.

I’d like to get a more detailed explanation of that “larger original human population.” I guess they’re thinking that multiple humans just evolved simultaneously and completely separate from the others??? Do they realize how unlikely that is? Besides the fact that the odds against even one human evolving from lower forms of life are incalculably high, the likelihood that more than one human life form would evolve completely separate from any others, but at exactly the same time, is practically non-existent. This is just utterly ridiculous!

It pains me to see how the word "diversity" has been transformed into a source of fear and division, when it should celebrate our unique perspectives and experiences. Just as nature shows us countless expressions of divine beauty, humanity's varied viewpoints can enrich our understanding of each other and the sacred. True connection comes from listening with an open heart - moving beyond surface opinions to understand each person's deeper story. We don't need to agree on everything to respect and care for one another. Perhaps this acceptance of our differences, guided by faith, is what allows genuine love to flourish.

KJV is a fairly good translation for it’s time, but it isn’t perfect. With the way some things are translated, it is clear they had their king in mind and maybe thinking how he would react to certain verses. For example John 14:2 doesn’t actually say mansions in the original text.
@CAHiredGun
@CAHiredGun Күн бұрын
@markdurdle7710 The example provided is not a valid one. In Early Modern English, "mansion" carried the meaning of: "An individual habitation or apartment within a large house or group of buildings." Thus, "In my Father's house are many mansions." It is correctly translated into EME, and is done so more specifically than is possible in modern English, which is often the case in the KJV. The fundamental difference between the KJV and modern versions, however, and the one that gives the KJV precedence over the overwhelming majority of modern translations, is the fact that the KJV is translating a completely different textual basis (the Traditional/Received Text of the Reformation) from modern Bibles (the Critical Text of 19th century theological liberalism).
