In this anime universe, there are a lot of conflicts. There are too many spies and other suspicious people around. I assume that is why anyone who says I am just single, I prefer privacy or my wife died etc. are the prime suspects. That is why no matter how natural it is to be single, I think people do their best to portray a good family life to look reliable. Otherwise, they can be easily suspected.
