The real reason they had to towel off the T-Rex is because he was sweating profusely. He was extremely nervous, as this had been his first major role in a few million years.

When Stan Winston studios was making the T-Rex they caused a literal drought of WED clay that they were using to sculpt it as they bought up almost every scrap. Many other FX houses had to postpone jobs as they just couldn't get the materials.

another fun thing about that final T-rex/velociraptor fight, is that when the velociraptor is in the T-rex's mouth, there was an error in the rendering and it completely vanishes for 1 frame, and that is in every cut of the movie. luckily it happened when the velociraptor was being thrown around so it's hard to see unless you look for it. but it literally just disappears for one frame =P

5:20 Fun fact, Murphy's Law took effect here and there was one day on set, while the guy was doing maintenance, the T-rex just... shut off. Don't know if it was due to water damage or a power outage, but yeah, shit got hectic real quick. People were yelling and shit trying to finds ways to turn it back on and hopefully get the guy out in one piece. Thing is, he actually survived potentially getting sheared by the insides of a metal T-rex and was safely pulled out once they got the power on again. How did he survive you ask? Well, he curled up into a ball... and hoped for the best. And he fucking got it lads.

I think the only CGI in the movie that doesn't hold up today is when you see the scenes with the CGI Brachiasaur. To me it looks nothing like the animatronic one. But otherwise the effects are still amazing. Better than some of the stuff pumped out today.
@bigginsd12 жыл бұрын
I think having one of the best stop motion animators in history animating a lot of the scenes first essentially as test footage helped so much. The CGI animators could reference Phil Tippets stop motion work, often shot for shot, as Spielberg had kept it as backup in case the CGI didn’t work. Once Tippet realises CGI will be used in wide shots his stop motion work looks unpolished, as he knows it is only going to be used as reference and he is focusing mainly on movement. Once the film came out I think other film makers mistakenly thought CGI could look great all on it’s own, not realising they used it incredibly sparingly with a lot of practical effects and they used both traditional and CGI animators to get the movement right.
@blyat88322 жыл бұрын
Fun fact, the scene where the T Rex escaped his area and tried to break into the car with the kids, they had an actual animatronic under rain. This caused the robot to shake from the water, which made it look like it was shivering. That apparently spooked a lot of the crew members lol

Here's a crazy dino fact for you. In the timeline of the Earth, T-Rex lived closer to us than it did to Stegosaurus. T-Rex was alive around 66 million years ago. Stegosaurus was 144 million years ago. How crazy is that? When we think about Dinosaurs, we think they were around for a few million years, but in actuality they ruled the Earth for a VERY VERY long time.
