You can get a cattle rub with face flips to help with fly control. They learn to go under it to scratch their backs & administers the fly repellent as they rub. The face flips gets the chemical on the face for that area also. Cattle love it and the bison may also.

Your fencing looks like they were installed by the pros! Controlling the flys in the summer is always such a challenge. My grandpa used to put a scratch line (I don’t know what else to call it) out in around where they are, and where they would go for shade. I believe that he put a mixture of a pesticide and kerosine. It really helped keep the flies from laying eggs in the skin. I know that you do whatever you need to do, and use whatever works. That’s so awesome to have a neighbor to donate such huge tires. I’m sure they will make a big difference. I love your pet chickens. The silky is so pretty 👍!

I was hoping Dusty and Marissa would turn the old silo into a home. I've seen some very extravagant silo homes and they are absolutely breathtaking, with spiral staircases and huge loft bedrooms. That would be cool if the Bakers made a home out of the silo and painted the outside of the silo with a big bison on it. They could make the silo into a home and even rent it out to make an income or even an airb&b on the bison property. Making the renter sign an agreement that they won't mess with the bison. Oh, the ideas I'd have if I had all that land. 😊

Good luck with the Spraying of the Bison. I know it is kind of Self Defeating at times, but I compliment u all for taking the Initiative to control them. My Father used some type of oil on a Tree Branch with some type of cloth, but the oil was really thick and I am or quite sure, but they ran them through a homemade shut for them to get pretty coated with this. It smelled really loud of Sulphur, but it really seemed to work. I cannot tell u what it was called, but they were gone in no time, the smell lingered for along time. Just thought of this today as I watch you all. I hope soon the flies will be gone from them, because they do create a big problem with the scabbing and all. I am glad Cole is back, he is such a great help and all, especially with the Filming. Thank u so much for sharing ur wonderful Farm Life with again, and may God continue to Bless ur entire Family, take care.

Hi Dusty. Love watching your videos! They’re incredibly educational. Can spraying for flies be included when you work your bison? Anchor steel pipe on both sides of the creek. Extend pipe from one side to the other across the creek. On the lowest pipe bend pipe vertically into a circle around the lowest pipe in each place a vertical pipe will be placed. Weld horizontal pipe steel across the creek onto the vertical pipe you hinged. When the creek is low the pipe fence cover hangs straight. When the water rises the hinged pipe portion will hinge up through force of water passing and water will pass without incidence. Works like a clock.
@starlawilson41032 жыл бұрын
I've used a couple of different things across a creek, depending on the width. Cable run along the top of aluminum gates and anchored on each end allows for water flow and will rise and fall with water levels. Also used a long piece of pipe with additional pipe welded on, think of a comb, and strung it across with cable. The pipe is heavier than the gate, but both were effective.

@davidstinnett38892 жыл бұрын
Dusty, couldn't tell for sure if you are looking for ideas to get a fence across a creek, so for whatever it's worth, we made what we called "water gaps". Just hang heavy wood fence posts on barb wire across whatever stretch of water. Hang them low enough(still above normal water levels) that livestock won't go under and when the water gets high enough, the hanging fence posts just flex with the flow of water and do not get washed out. Hope this helps. FTR, you hang the fence posts horizontally., wiring them to the bottom two strands of your barbed wire fence. This makes things strong and flexible. Be blessed.

Here in Wisconsin, and I think maybe nationwide, treatment plants have to meet 1 of two standards for water purity that they release. The standards are based on the volume of the body of water they release into. One standard is stream standards, that is their released water doesn't alter that quality of the water they release into. The other standard is effluent standard which is the purity of the water as it leaves that facility, this standard is the one you want as it will mean that the water coming out of the plant is very high. Learned this taking a random 300 level college Chem course aimed at Civil Engineers with a sanitary option, ie they would be running water treatment plants or designing them for municipalities and businesses.
